The mbundas are doing great now that all the Labs and hybrids are gone to the new tank. I serviced the PennPlax cannister including all the hoses, fittings, impeller, etc. and went with the spray bar for better circulation and also better media for water polishing. I also added a powerhead to push some more water around. I've learned a TON since joining this forum. No new filter yet, I spent my beer money getting a brand new HOB for the cube 35 I just got, and new CF 50/50 bulbs for the 55 gallon. Plus a master test kit so I can play mad scientist.

Alas, common advice on the African Cichlid forum is to let go of the mbunda, since with the variety I have all I'll do it to keep losing fish. Although they are healthy, and as happy as grouchy fish will ever get, and the water is much much better, I'll probably take that advice and restock with a better choice. Getting rid of them here in Corpus is the hard part. Spending two tanks of gas in my truck to go to the auction Saturday doesn't seem like the best idea right now either. I'll probably take them to the HCCC auction on the 15th in SA if I still have them by then. Less fuel, at least.

Thanks for wondering. You all are great!

Glad to hear they are doing well. Don't be in too much of a rush to get rid of them. If all you have left is Mbuna they should coexist without too many issues. Plus I have a soft spot for Malawis esp. Demasoni. The only problem you should have going forward is them outgrowing the tank.

I would leave it as it is right now. Just know that some mbuna's will become hyper aggressive and will hunt down other fish. I used to have hongi and they where hyper aggressive and I lost many nice fish to a georgeous hongi that would just terrorize everyone else. I removed them from the tank and the rest start living normally again.

A bigger tank should be your biggest wish for Christmas.
            If you can only house a 4ft, get a 90 or 105 4ft tank.
If you can house a 6ft tank I would look at getting a 125/135/150 or bigger..

Your Malawi setup with cichlid1409's help can be a good looking place.
I would look to see about coming up to Houston at some point to one of the meetings, or auctions. GHAC will have one soon and HAS always have big auctions 3 times a year.
Bring cichlid1409 with you, this way you can travel together in the cheaper of the two gas guzzlers.
