  • New to Texas

    Hi,

My family and I just relocated to Spring from Portland, Oregon last summer. I was a GPAS member while I lived there, and recently sent in my ap. and dues for the HAS. Then I found this forum, so it'll take me a little reading to get caught up to everyones posts here. but I am looking forward to seeing what's going on.

I lived in PDX for 16 years and while there started a local Killie club called NW Killies that quickly grew into the largest and strongest club of it's kind on the west coast. We ended up sponsoring the "West Coast Weekend" Killie event for 7 years and our club recently hosted the AKA National Convention. I was president of that club for it's initial 10 tens until, with the great crash of 2008, my residential home building business dried up and I decided it was time to shift gears and follow my passion for things aquatic overseas to the Peruvian Amazon.

Over the last 2 years I have started a new business called WildPERU based in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. This year, we decided to pull up stakes in PDX and move to Houston so that my "commute" from here to the jungle was made shorter and less costly, and so that we can live in a place where summer lasts longer the 10 weeks! So here we are! :O)

As of this summer we are finally finished with the approval process and are now legal Peruvian exporters! We will be doing some test shipments into IAH over the next few weeks to our new facility in Spring, and then I will return to S.A. to start collecting with clients in January through until early March. This tour will include Peru , Bolivia and Colombia.

Wildperu offers expedition outfitting for Fish Collection, Photography/Video-graphy, Herpetology groups; Birders and Butterfly collectors. We also like to work with Universities, Zoos and members of Academia looking for special expedition logistical help and/or to locate special display animals. We also import ornamental fishes and provide logistical help to importers seeking assistance on the import side. Here is a calendar of upcoming Wildperu expeditions for 2012.

October 2012, Sarawak!!! 14-17 days, due to scheduling conflicts we were forced to reschedule this trip for 2012.

There are still openings left for all of these trips. Some are limited! So if you see something you want to know more about, please either PM me, message me on Facebook at wildperu, or shoot me an email. If you are an HAS member, Wildperu will be extending member discounts on all trips.

I am also available to give talks on all our doings for club meetings.

I am looking forward to the January HAS meeting where I can meet some of you. In the meanwhile, best wishes to everyone for a safe Holiday season and a prosperous 2012!!!

Great! Welcome to Houston! Killies are a group I've long wanted to get involved with, so I'm excited to hear more.
Tell your boss you need to go home to take care of your "cichlids." It sounds an awful lot like "sick kids." )

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

            Hello and welcome

Fish club... think it is Houston Aquatic Society. Check the bottom of the forum for the list of Houston clubs and there's a sticky thread in one of the sub forum sections with a list of acronyms.

"Fish basics" is where the thread is.

Snoop around some, there's a world of info that has been placed so that newbies can find it easily.
