Thanks for the info about the anubias! This tank actually does not house any of the plants I was planning on for it, because I haven't been able to find any in stores. All I really wanted was dwarf hairgrass or HC, but I haven't been able to find any yet, so I ended up just putting things in there and hoping for the best. I knew Java fern couldn't go in substrate,, but I didn't know that about anubias.

I'm currently considering taking advantage of the dollar-per-gallon sale going on at Petco and getting a breeder 40 for $40. Even though I have only had my 3-gal for about a month, I am already aware of a lot of things I would do differently the next time around. It's definitely an interesting process though, and I look forward to learning more through mistakes made.

The one on 290 usually has a lot and even the 55g under the sale as well.

Cool thanks, I saw a 40 at the old one in Humble on Wednesday... if I can't find one then I will just take it as a sign to quit buying things, lmao.
