  • Hello from Houston

Hello! Haven't been hanging around the Box too long but decided to join (:

Currently I have a single 10-gallon tank with sand and just began trying my hand with live plants...so far the only plant I've managed to keep alive is 2 marimo moss balls, last attempt with an amazon sword didn't go so well. Got a micro sword, a melon sword, couple wisteria and (another) amazon sword...I'm expecting at least one to kick the bucket soon! And I have a sorority of 5 female bettas, all of which are little heathens!

Welcome. I'm out in Santa Fe. I have a 135 gallon that's about to go down as of next week. And my daughter has a ten gallon with all her fancy guppies in it. Welcome to the Fish Box

Welcome sunstar93. Don't blame us if you end up with more tanks you can handle before Christmas! LOL

Lol at one point last year I had my 10 gallon, a 1 gallon QT, a 5 gallon mini-bow, a 1.5 gallon, and a 1 gallon tank! My 10 gallon was divided into 3 "compartments". I felt like that was already a lot of tanks (and way too much work)! But since all my male bettas died I have just the one 10 gallon....and my parents already said no more tanks. But I'm working on it

TexasHuntress...I would love a 135..but I would probably get tired of the upkeep lol.

I'm shutting it down until I can find a pro to come out here and redesign my filtration system.

Redesign your filtration system? What do you mean?

Start a thread about it. Pretty sure you'll get some ideas quickly from the members here

Start a thread in the chemistry and equipment section. Filtering a 135 shouldn't take much doing

Welcome aboard! Post up your specs (lighting, filtration, whatever you remember) in the plnted tank section and we should be able to help out. My guess from the start is lighting. Add a clip on 6500 k compct spiral bulb at the highest wattage you can find. That should be enough for most of your plants to grow and thrive.

                        Welcome to the Box!

Another thing with swords is adding root tabs to the substrate. I never had luck with them and always withered and died over time. I only have one planted tank, but many members here give great advice when I started up my plant tank
