  • Back in the game!

Hello to the Houston fish community! I adore fish and I've decided, after many years of absence, to get back into aquatics. My love of fish began with a 27 gallon fresh in high school. I quickly moved on to working at Partner's Pet Center in Round Rock for a couple years, where I picked up a 55 gallon, an unwanted red belly Pacu named Dante, and a love of Arowanas. During that time, I even set up a small tank maintenance service. I had those for four or five years before Dante died and I moved off to finish college at Texas A and M, giving the 55 away. I then worked at PetStop in College Station for almost 3 years, mostly as the salt water expert, where I delved into salt reef, turning the 27 gallon into a reef tank with great success. I also had a 6 gallon nano reef, picked up a 30 hex reef, and tried to start a small scale coral fragging business that unfortunately went no where. Gotta make your money where you can in college. A couple years before I graduated, my last tank, the 30, crashed and I haven't been back. I still have all of the tanks, but they sit dusty and unused in storage. That was 8 years ago, and a lot has happened! One of my best friends jumped into tanks recently with a discus 90 and I've been jealous ever since. He talks of bean animals and LED lighting that's all gibberish to me! I've really missed my finned friends and the beauty of a nice tank, so I'm jumping back in. I have a 40 breeder gearing up and a wall ready for a DSA 180 bowfront sometime in the near future.
I look forward to being part of a wonderful aquarium community again.

          Welcome!

Beware of bowfront tanks : the curved stand reduces filtration options and I've seen many who bought them be disappointed and move to regular flat-pane tanks to make use of the extra stand space for filtration.

I get what your saying, the curve does add a bit of a challenge, but I think there's plenty of space under a bowfront. You just have to be clever enough to utilize all the space properly. Can't just chunk a standard sump down there and call it a day. Gotta think outside the box, quite literally.
