  • I'm in the Box

Love me some Tropheus. Spent 25 years in the hobby. Prior to tropheus, I did salt. More color and less fish. Something captivating and endearing about tropheus that fuels an addiction to get another tank to house another variant.

Right now I'm sporting Ikola, but I have the itch again. Ilangi or Red Rainbow is next up.....I know I know, typical want in variant.

I have a 75 gallon tank with 12 4in 7 month old beast Ikolas. Got 6 cyps with them doing well. I power feed and change water like there is no tomorrow and I am committed to monsters. Nice wide yellow bands and attitudes with clownish behavior always begging for grub......but you guys just ate! Ho hum, I'll brown bag it so you guys can have the best.....again. Really hoping this colony will give a shimmy and a shake, with babies they make. Goal is to reproduce to 36 ASAP!

So if any of you have 12 fry of the ones I want, hit me up. This really is an introduction thread, so I don't want it to come off as a wtb too much. Yeah, I'll need them shipped.....but fuel my addiction and let's do hobbyist to hobbyist. Always better in my book.

Feeling the love here. Thanks fellas!

i like this site. I was frequenting another site, but there was something about it that put me off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something not right. Any who, I've been lurking at HFB for a while and finally decided to jump in.

i do have a question. I've had trophs for about a year. Can't get the lighting quite right. They look best with the ambient room lighting. The minute I turn the LEDs and t5s on, that natural look in the lake tones of the tank is gone.

Anyone doing anything to get a nice "daylight lake" look. If I could just take the ambient lighting of the room, amplify it, then control it I'd be set.

Thought halogens, or flood lights, or even low wattage 10k metal halides might do it. Not sure? Any ideas?

Me too. I figured it was so simple and to the point, someone had to have it. Lucky me!
