Hi Ladies and Gents! I just purchased my first 75g tank and I'm planning on a freshwater planted. I've maintained a 175g saltwater tank for years so I have NO IDEA what I'm doing here. Hopefully, you all can help me out and I'll be able to help you along the way.

Well it's easier and cheaper IMHO so shouldnt be that bad unless your going all out. You going high tech (highlight plants, high wattage lights, co2, etc? Or low tech (low light hardy plants, low to medium wattage lights, simple fertilizers)?

Thanks all. I'm going low tech. I just want to add a nice aquascape, moving water, and a few schools of small fish to my living space. I haven't set up the tank yet. I purchased PFS today, heater, and a HOB filter. I should set it up in the next day or so. I still need to paint the back of my tank. Any suggestions for a hardy cycle fish that might be able to survive my novice attempt? Can I cycle with just plants from an established tank?

Best way is to seed your filter in an established tank. Or better yet seed it with some media from an established tank.
