that would be the ideal thing to do but i dont have the time nor skills to do that. the only cars i can work on are old cars. i dont like messing with the new complicated motors. specially a cadillac. i've had at least 7 cadillacs since i was young but the only thing i will do myself is tune ups or small stuff like alternator, brakes, trans filter, ect..

getting a junkyard motor would be more $$ and no guarantee on motor lasting. i know this motor is good and the heads are basicaly like new now.

yes i know that but the problem would be long term. i want to basically fix this car up. it will be my weekend car and if im going to put alot of money into it i need a long term engine. not looking for a quick fix. i dont mind spending money on it as long as the work is professional. i have already invested more than 2,500 in just the alarm and sound. i plan on getting a 2,000 paint job and then new tires and rims so a junk motor is not an option. dont get me wrong you can get lucky and get a good motor. i know this from experiance. i bought a junk 5.0 from a old crown vic police interceptor and it ran in my mustang for a good 4yrs until i sold the car.

Well, if you have that much coin to drop on fixing the car up... go buy a junkyard motor, have it rebuilt somewhere, then have that swapped into the car. You could probably have the car towed somewhere to have the swap done, but that way you end up with a fresh motor in the car

Depending on what happened to your motor to make it overheat and blow the head gasket, you could have more damage to the motor than is apparent. My parents have had 2 Cadillacs, and I honestly dread working on them

a motor you get from a junkyard/recycler was most likely a good motor that was in a car that got totalled. I think I've bought 2 or 3 motors like this for cars over the years, and all were fine- I think most come with a warranty anyway.

Realistically- how much are you looking to spend on getting the car back up and running?

$600 just want the heads put back on. i need the rest of the money for the paint and wheel package. also rent is comming up.
