  • Update on Bruno-the saved from the river pup

Bruno is getting big and we have found that he is part mastiff part Lab. He has outgrown all the other dogs at ony 10 weeks old but is the biggest baby of them all.The third pic is him at about 2-3 weeks old.

I had 2 big Dobies for years...growing up they went through 50lbs a month...one big puppy would eat 25 lbs a month max, months down the road; unless you use Purina Dog PreCrap...premium stuff from Sams is not expensive and good for growing puppies.

We are staying away from Purina with him as well as all our dogs. I feed them the Natural Choice by Nutro. After 10 bags I can get 1 free at petco. Every bag counts when you have 6 dogs.

I would guess he weighs around 20lbs+

If he's got mastiff in him you don't want to feed him puppy food either, adult only. Mastiffs need to grow slowly (hip dysplasia) so shouldn't be given the extra that puppy food has in it. Forgive me if I'm preaching to the choir :)

              He's an adorable puppy!

I found that feeding a handful of the nastiest, room temp fatty hamburger meat mixed with dry food (just a little bit) 2 times a week insures the pup gets enough aminos and nutrition in his first 6-7 months of growing .
They wear out the strength in their jaws eating just dry food, seeing as how they are growing and need more intake than when they are older and at more adult height.
The suppliment gives them what they need to insure a good foundation of bone and muscle growth, while the fat adds more minerals and fuels coat and muscle health early on.
I used Eukenuba, and Hill's for a long time, and the extra suppliment of hamburger and dry food gave me very healthy dogs who rarely had to go to the vet for anything.
He's gonna be a big one...good looking puppy!

They wont get sick from eating raw meat?---that sounds nasty!
I've just been mixing can food with their dry.

I thought feeding fat to dogs can cause pancreatic failure...which can lead to death.
I use Royal Canin...the "RC Special" food is softer than regular dry stuff, my dogs love it.
It's a little more expensive than the other brands but it's good. Science Diet is a cheaper alternative that is pretty trustworthy.

He is going to be a big boy indeed!

I would buy the Royal Canin as well if I wasnt feeding so many. It is top of the list but PetCo dont pay me well enough...:)

lol. Understandable. My pooches won't eat anything else. Not even science diet. Spoiled little $hits.
