Looks like you have two blue budgies there.
If they are more than a year old, you can sex them by looking at the color of their cere. The part just above the beak where the nostrils are located. Males are blue and females are brown.

You can also estimate their age by looking at the bars on their head. If the bars extend to the cere, they are less and 4-6 months old. If they have a white head, they should be older than 4-6 months. Looks like yours are more than 4-6 mths old and may be sexable by looking their ceres.

mahoro, I think they do better in pairs. I've always kept more than one, they get lonely. i also would clip their wings (so they couldn't fly away) and let them walk around the house. And like nacra said earlier, if the nose piece is blue, its male, if its brown its female.

+1 for Kiovo -- they like to be together in pairs, unless like she said, you can spend a lot of time with them. They are super affectionate and love to give you attention. They will if you handle them proper sit on your shoulder and nuzzle up with you, talk to you etc.. they are wonderful birds. I kept a pair always when I was a kid -- I so enjoyed them and cried a ton each time one passed away. They live for about 6 yrs. I sold my last pair off when we moved to the US. My last pair also breed for us :)

Hi! I don't think they should set it free because chances are, they will not make it in the wild. I've always kept more than one, but if you want them to be tame, you will have better luck with only one but you would really have to spend a lot of time with them. I've never had any of my birds fight over food unless they weren't getting enough. We don't have that problem because I LOVE to feed my babies!!

I agree about clipping their wings and letting them roam around the house. That's what we used to do before my hubby took ill and had lung disease. They sell diapers for them so they don't poop on the floor. My grandma used to make ours because they didn't have them back them. They just look like overalls and you put tissues where their bottom in.

                              Hope this helps!
