Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
Kirby is just a hop away. I mean Village is right by 59 and just one exit from Kirby, so . . . When I look at it on Mapquest it sure looks close! Whenever we go there we go towards the freeway, turn R on the feeder road and then take a right at the next light, which is Kirby. Isn't that correct? And there you are at 59 & Kirby.
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
You will be able to get to the new store site from the service raod of 59 south right before Kirby or on Kirby north of 59. The will be in the stripe center of the north east side of 59 & Kirby.
They will be making the move in the middle of December.

Yeah...move date is 12/15 or is it reopen date is 12/15..whatever. They are moving into the vacant Argentinian restaurant on the north east side of Kirby and 59.
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
ok, straight skinny. The building sold and all tenants have to move. Roger is still the owner, nothing sold.
He is just taking the opportunity to have the name match his other stores. the new facility will give them twice the fresh and salt water space and half again plant space. Long term it will be a much better deal for us all. they are not sure of the exact opening date as they are working on the other facility and want to get everything just right before the move. It will be the same people you are used to dealing with, just a new name and larger/better facility.

So he's also the owner of Fish Gallery? I love that store! It's funny that my fav Houston store and my fav Dallas store are owned by the same people. Â Â Small world - AND he's doing something right!!
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
Neither. He is short (IMO) but does not have long hair and does not spend much time in the store, he is there once in awhile and always when they have the side walk sales. He spends a lot of his time with the home in tank service company. When he is there he is always in a hurry and talks real fast, sort of like a yankee. usually when he is there, he is talking like a used car sales man and if he thinks he is not going to make a real quick sale, he will excuse himself and tell someone else to take care of you.
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
that place is good, the older man helped me out alot while the younger ones stood by the counter. But i have picked up a couple of fish when i see them for a good prices.

maybe he got a hair cut
last time I saw him was in the late 80s - he would always tell me how the shop was doing financially, etc.
Re: Have you visited Village tropicals website lately?
that must have been right after he bought it, I did not rememer him owning it that long. After he got it going pretty good and got the service side going, he had Don running it and Steve was the main guy on the floor all of the time. Do you remember Bobby that worked there? Bobby was tall and a know it all, he came off as a smart A##, but after you got to know him, you realized he DID know it all. I do not really know most of the folks who work there now, I only go in when steve is there and deal only with him. If you are interested in plants, no one I know of, knows more than steve. Steve is off wednesday and thursday, so I am never in there on those days. any lfs is only as good as the guy you are dealing with, so I guess I tend to talk to the old timers when I go in places anymore. I am sure that there are lots of young folks who know their stuff, I just have not spent enough time talking to many of the younger people in the stores so I do not know many of their names. In most of the stores I go into I have one person I deal with, I know them and they know me, so I do not meet to many of the younger people. I will occasionally have one of them ask me about my angels or some facit of my hatchery, but not too many show too much interest.
