  • Swine flu??

Who's worried about catching swine flu and what are you doing to prevent it? Just curious, it seems to be a big issue around here. Kids are going to school with mask on.

Personally I am a little worried because it seems to be spreading quickly. To prevent it: Washing hands every time I touch cash and anything else that millions of other people may have touched. Not wearing any mask. But I am avoiding malls, theathers and even grocery stores. Which reminds me I need to stock up on puffer flu (early in the morning) before there's too many people in the store. I'm even using clorox wipes on everything I bring into the house. Before I put it up I wipe it down with clorox wipes. Am I crazy? Maybe so but I don't want this!

My outlook is that it is being over dramatized much like Avian flu and SARs were and they never panned out. Not saying this wont but I try not to let things bother me or change the way I do things same as the economy. I think this day in age with the media it is just something for them to hype and get ratings from the fearful and there are plenty of them I have one in my office that put a sign no coughing or sneezing in her office. If it comes it comes

I hope your right. I can't afford to miss work. Until this thing passes I'm holding my breath. I don't usually panic about things like that either but it seems that it's getting close to home.

First off, don't call it "Swine Flu" call it H1N1! I think it's just a normal flu like everyone gets sometimes. People are making it out to be more than it really is. I'm not worried about getting it at all.

It's like that House episode "Airborne" where he and Cuddy are on an airplane. There is a guy who gets sick and they try to determine what it is. Really all it is is a bag of cocaine in his stomach that popped open and he also gets diagnosed with decompression sickness. But they think it's some dangerous disease. Anyways, all of the passengers start showing symptoms, even Cuddy, because they think they have this disease. When actually all of them are just suffering from Mass Hysteria.

I'm really not going to worry unless I get flu-like symptoms. I'm just going to be washing my hands and asking people to cough into the inside of their elbows until this dies down.

                      Lissa,
here's the skinny on the H1N1 aka "swine flu"
this is not and i repeat not your typical flu.....as far as going places in masks that is a bit much to me....but....if it makes people feel better then they should do it....
HAND WASHING.....HAND WASHING.......HAND WASHING........I can't stress that enough....that's more of how it's spread than by droplets in the air....but it can be both......stay away from people with cough,fever/chills, diarrhea, sore throat, headache, muscle aches,nausea/vomiting or they have travelled to Mexico in the last 7 days. if anyone has (3) of these symptoms together then they should be tested immediately for the H1N1....
it's a matter of just keeping yourself protected from people that have flu like symptoms....not to put yourself in isolation from the world....
but i will say it's going to get worse very quickly....so just take precautions....

                      there ya go.....

I think the concern with the Swine Flu (yeah, I said it) is not that it is or isn't the same as other flu viruses, or that it's some alien deadly strain, but that it:

                        1. Spreads pretty fast
                        2. Is contagious longer
                        3. There is no flu shot

As with other illnesses, if the demand for medication/hospital beds/doctors exceeds the supply available, we have a problem.

Having said all that, I'm not changing my lifestyle, but I've always been pretty good about washing my hands.

your so right Traci....there is no "shot" for it....it is a "virus" and there are no antibiotics or "cures" for viruses....all they can do is treat the symptoms....ie: fever, chills, diarrhea...ect.......
it is going to be a very harsh outcome with this "fierce spreading" virus.....but just keep your hands away from your face, and carry the hand sanitizer with you when you have to touch doors, shelves, ect.......

Thanks fishlady. I keep sanitizer in my purse and my car. I think I'll just stay away from public "crowded" places until this thing passes. I'm lucky enough to work in an office where there's not a lot of public traffic. If the hubby get's sick I'll just make him sleep on the patio.)
