What you have to do first is go to a gun dealer (if you need finding one look at http://www.gunbroker.com/user/DealerNetwork.asp and they will list FFL's in your area.)

Look for someone whom lives close to you and contact them about a transfer. If you cannot find someone I know a few people, but again they dont do the work for free.

Once you contact them they will tell you what they need from you and what you need to do to complete the sale. Basically they will fax/email a copy of their FFL to the person who is selling the gun. Then when you send the money for the gun they will SHIP the gun to the person who is the FFL.
Once the FFL has recieved the gun, they contact you and you come and fill out the paperwork. Once you have passed the background check and you pay the transfer fee to the FFL they give you your gun :)

    Sale complete.

background check? i thought texas doesn't do background check, you can just go in a pick up a gun, pay it then off to the shooting range or to ur ex-place, lol...

Background is check is done by the FFL. This is really what the transfer fee is all about. If you buy someone rifle at a store they put the cost of the "transfer fee" into the rifle. They have to hold on to the paper work forever. They have to send it to the ATF if they ever close shop. This is why cost has increased over the years because it costs money to hold on to books etc over long period of time.

Have them ship one to Texas.. they should be able to do that for you... then you can get the lower cost..

keep looking. i was out and around all day friday, i can believe jesper when he says dont go into collectors with cash, but credits just as bad, i picked up a few different items on friday from two academies, and collectors. I have a 30-30 that has a lower powered scope on it. now i just need to get a mount for my nagant, that beast will work just as well as a 30-06 or close enough for me. think about the distances that you will be shooting. if you are never going to be shooting long distance then there are lots of rifles that can fit the bill. but a little more power can work better for the long term. I personally think a sporterized Nagant or slightly altered would be a lot less and work just fine for anything you are wanting to hunt. definately a lot less. or get one and customize it yourself, cost less then half what you were looking to spend.

599 is a good price.. that is well worth getting. Spend the money on a good scope. Like my friend said, if you are NOT looking to shoot out to more than 150 yrs, then a good aimpoint will do the work VERY well and very accurate.

i gota wait til my renewed lic. to arrive in the mail, but from all the looking around 550 - 600 is the range for the 700 sps varmint, i call up katy yestarday and they said they had a 700 sps 'varmint' and when i went over and check it out, it looks like its just a sps model, not the varmint, and they kept telling me its the varmint, so looks like they won't be getting my money... i also got http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EOIBSA:US:1123

One way of seeing if the rifle is the sps vs sps varmint is the barrel length on the .308 win. The sps is 24" and the varmint is only available in a 26".
Second when you look at a varmint it has three "airvents" on the side of the stock.
Look at this review http://www.snipercentral.com/remspsv.htm a good review
