  • Is there any way to clean the carpet stains left by my tank stand?

One of the filters on my 29g leaked a few months back, and now that I've moved the tank, I'm left with a very ugly stain on the carpet.

Is there any way to get this stain up?

I've been hitting it with oxyclean which has helped take it from almost black to medium brown, but it doesn't seem to be budging the stain any further.

I'm trying hydrogen peroxide right now.

Maybe rubbing alcohol if that doesn't work?

Has anyone found a way of cleaning these stains back out of the carpet?

My wife uses something called spot shot. I swear the military uses it as weapon.

It probably will not come out. maybe you could patch it. Use some cpt from a closet and get a remnant to replace the carpet in a closet. Go to a local floor dealer buy a remnant and see if the salesman will give you a phone number to a installer. pay him direct. maybe $100.00. I have been selling floors for 25 years and I see this stuff everyday.

I'll get some and try it, thanks!

        Anyone with other ideas?

I think you're right, but I'm not going to give up trying just yet.

The stain will be covered by my new stand for the 90g so I don't need it patched. I just wanted to clean it up, if possible, before leaving it under the new stand for who knows how long. Then there would be absolutely no way to get it up.

We have two dogs and three kids and spot shot has cleaned up some things I thought I'd have to stare at forever. Scary stuff, surprised it doesn't eat through the can.

Try Goop hand cleaner. We have it and use it on set in stains on our laundry but I've also heard it's great with carpet.

Thanks, I'll give both a try. So far, the hydrogen peroxide has lightened the stain. It's still darker than I'd like so I'm hitting it again with more hydrogen peroxide. I'm not sure goop can touch this stain, but it can't hurt to try (it's great on grease!). Spot Shot sounds like something I'd like to try in general so this would be a good test for it.

The biggest thing now is that cleaning this carpet means I can't put my new tank there yet. Once I finally either clean or give up on the stain, I'll have to wait for all this to dry before I can move my new tank in.

what you do is make more stains spots on different part/location on ur carpet, so it would all match... lol

I would just rub it in as best I could. I hope the stains come out soon. I can't wait to see the tank build.

                    Good luck!

The hydrogen peroxide lightened the stain to the point I have to turn the overhead lights on and look to see the stain. It's there, no question. But it doesn't jump out at you. So I've decided to let it go at that. I'm letting the area to dry so I can get my tank set up.

My Mom uses viniger and water. I don't like it because it makes the house smell for a while. But it works. I will call her and ask her for the ratio water to viniger.
