    Computer help needed

    Okay... my wife bought me a new latop for my birthday. I love it; its great... but... it won't see access our wireless network. I can plug in the ethernet cable, and everything works... it can "see" our network, but cannot connect. I got a Toshiba Satellite and have a Linksys router.

    I have three other laptops hooked up to the network (wirelessly) - including an older Toshiba Satellite. The new computer is the only one that has Vista...

    Can someone stop by and look at it.. or give me an idea of what else to check? I've spent 4+ hours already... to no avail.

        Too bad you live so far from me, I would help out. Is this a Gateway by any chance? Did you setup a password in your router? I would try to see if you could connect to the internet by connecting your laptop to the modem (not the router) via Ethernet cable (Cat 5 cable) and if that works it has to do something with your router configurations or the router itself. Be sure to turn off your laptop and unplug the power cord from the modem before trying to connect the 2. After unplugging the power cord wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in, then wait till the "ready" light is solid on the modem before plugging it up to your laptop.

        I'll be subscribed to this thread to help you. Let me know on update.

              ROFL -- Tim let me know when you have time.. I can stop by your place and fix you up. I have done this before so I am pretty sure I am familiar with it.

                  Tim,
                  i had the same problem on my new dell. But on the dell keyboard theres a button that connects/log off the internet. I dont know if your laptop have such a button but check it out.
