    MB,

    Nice looking bird!

What are some words you got her saying?

Does she curse? If yes, that would be so cool!

If no, I'm have a little chat with geoff about what he can teach her.

Have her speaking Vietnamese in no time!

I'll have to post some pics of Beau our African Grey. He probably has a 200 word vocabulary. Some of the things he says is when my partner picks up her keys or purse he'll say "Mama go bye bye, see ya later!" and when it's getting late he says, "Nighty night, give me a kiss!"

We've had a lot of parrots in our lives including cockatoos and macaws, but I think Grey birds are our favorite.

he is at the end of his life....he has a cataract on his left eye, that my vet is too scared to even attempt removing, due to his age, his wings droop a bit, but he is pretty cool, for a mexican red head, he has a pretty good vocabulary, about 100 works, the yellow shouldered amazon, has about 100 words also, but his vocabulary will get better!

cms - Gorgeous birds!! Tell us more about them if you can. What's the Mexican Red Head's name? Have you had him since he was a baby, or did you get him later in his life?

I've always been intrigued by Amazons, but felt that a conure was more for me when I got her.

MJ - She doesn't say much. She says "baby" and "up" and there are some other phrases that she says all the time but I'm still not sure what she's saying after all these years. )

thekarens - How old is Beau? And yes, please post pictures of him! Which kind of African Grey is he?

One of my favorite things I saw when I went to Uganda was the "zoo" in Entebbe. I went there numerous times. But I would always stand in front of the huge parrot enclosure and watch the Greys. At first I was alarmed because it seemed that a few of the birds had escaped and were hanging around on the outside of the enclosure. But when I asked, I found out that these were birds that had been rehabilitated and re-released into the wild, and would come by daily to say hello to their friends and to get a little snack. :) Needless to say, I donated some money to UWEC (the zoo) in order to sponsor the Greys. :)

My jenday is named Prometheus, nicknamed Mr. Screamyface. He is NOT the first thing you want to hear when you have a hangover. He says a couple things, mostly mmmmm, that's good! when I give him his diced apples. I can't get to photobucket at work so I'll post some pics of him tonight. He looks just like your jenny, MB, maybe slightly bigger.

Alfred is the mexican red head. I got him after his owner was murdered. I have had him for about 3 years. He was given to me. He was residing in a closed garage, when the daughter of the deceased person contacted me through my bird website i used to have. He was horribly skinny, and the cataract had just started on his left eye. He is great bird, a little moody, as typical with a male Amazon. I have toyed with the idea of finding him a female. I don't know how it would go, as I can't let any other birds around him. he says, hi, hello, whatca doin, mmmm chocolate (when he is given his peanuts), hey bird, come here, it's ok, what's up, hey a** hole, and other choice words, that I have not been acknowledging, and he is slowly starting to not say them, he had a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush. he is awesome....my partner Marty is terrified of big birds, and when I have Albert and Echo out, on top of their cages or on the manzanita play gym, they will run toward Marty just to watch him go the other direction. and don't let them get on the sofa when he is setting there, they will quietly walk up beside him and announce their presence, and he will jump and go running....I know it is not funny, but eversince the umbrella cockatoo i had attacked him, he does not trust birds. I have told him that I have been bitten countless times, and i still work with the birds, but he does not want to be bitten again!

now, Echo, my Yellow Shouldered Amazon, I traded a $1800 toy schnauzer puppy for him. He came with his cage. This specie of Amazon is particularly rare, and what makes it even worse, is all of the pairs I know about produce about 98% male babies, and you have to sit on a waiting list for 2-3 years before getting a female. That is fine, as he is only 2 years old, and a male is not mature until 5-7, wheras a hen matures at 3-5. He is awesome, I have only had him about a month, and he is slowly coming out of his shell. he attempts to sing Old MCdonald had a farm, and is getting better, he also screams like a 5 year old girl, and let me tell you when watching a horror movie, he knows right when to do it, when you aree watching the movie at 2 in the morning!!!!

                  That's funny! What a trip.

Thanks for the stories! Sorry about Marty, though. I've been bitten quite a few times, as well. Matsi gets in her moods every so often. But she's like a kid to me. :) You still love 'em, no matter what. :)

that is true, also, with amazons, you learn the body language, of when they are overstimulated, basically, when you don't need to pick up the bird, or when to put the bird down!!!!

YES!! I can read her down to the last feather, usually. I'm sure people don't believe me half the time when I say, "Okay! Time for Matsi to go up!"

She gets really weird about boys. She hates girls. Hates them. But she absolutely adores boys. And she's completely in love with my boyfriend. It triggers a mood in her whenever he's over, which lasts for at least a week or two - he hasn't been away from my place for longer than that for me to be sure how long it would last. But I really have to be careful, because although she's not the biggest parrot out there, by all means, that doesn't mean she can't hurt me! :)

Her thing right now is pants. She hates pants. Can't stand my work pants, especially. I can't touch them around her. Heehee. Crazy woman! :)

Here's Beau. He's a Congo African grey. He's 11 years old and Karen got him when he was still hand feeding.

I can honestly say we've never been bitten, but we know what to look for in body language and when those eyes start pinning it's time for him to take a time out. Beau has been sexed and is a male. Lately he's taken up this annoying chirp whistle thing and I've been telling him I'm going to make him into parrot soup.

                                Beautiful bird :)
When I was a kid I used to own several Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus). I owned one pair that laid eggs, but for one reason or another never had any chicks.. I dont know if the male was able to fertilize..
My favorite was a completely yellow budgerigar, and I cried for at least an hour when he died. I dug out a grave for him and when I put dirt on top of him he chirped and I immediately dug him back up because I thought he was still alive. I cried even longer when I thought I had killed him. After my Dad came home he told me the truth. When I let the dirt hit the little body the remaining air in his lungs where expelled and it made the noise..
