  • Texas State Railroad trip

Hi folks, for anyone that's interested I just read in Texas Monthly about a steam locomotive train ride up in Palestine, Tx. The write-up is here http://www.texasmonthly.com/travel and the website for the train is here http://www.texasstaterailroad.com . It seems like a great little holiday weekend trip if you like that sort of thing. Unfortunately it's in jeopardy of being shut down due to a loss of funding. So, if it sounds like something you might like, you'd better do it now.

If you're interested in emailing your politicians or signing a petition, you can go here http://www.texasstaterailroad.com/save_the_txsrr.html .

Being a railfan, I have ridden the train. It runs from Palestine to Rusk and back, or from Rusk to Palestine. They have a train that departs each station and they stage a meet at the halfway point both coming and going. If you have never seen or ridden on a steam train before, this is a must do little trip. I would suggest dressing for the weather tho as the cars are not heated or cooled. Also, pack yourself a sack lunch.
Consider my posts as general information based on personal experiences, and in most cases, far oversimplified. Actual mileage may vary. Don't try this at home. If symptoms persist, contact your physician.

Heidi and I did the "Mystery Train" trip there this summer, had a great time. The good news is that they just got funding through August of next year.

It's worth going there with or without kids/grandkids etc.
