Over the last month several members of my family and coworkers have experieced a trogan virus including myself. I wanted to send a warning out to everyone. Here's the story:
While reading email, reading news or just surfing Norton pops up on your screen and says you have been infected with a trogan. It then ask if you want to clean your computer. I don't have norton on my home computer or my work computer. I clicked yes at work and got the trogan. This was before I knew what to do. At home I clicked no, then total security popped up and started to scan my computer and said I had 36 virus and asked if I wanted to continue unprotected or clean my computer. At work I again clicked yes and windows started popping up, my screen turned blue, said my computer was infected etc. etc etc. At home I clicked the red x, the same blue screen popped up and I noticed that I now had a norton icon on my desk top. I went to control panel, add and remove, then I clicked remove norton. My back ground picture came back up and my computer is not infected. If I would have done that at work also I wouldn't have gotten the virus. If you have norton, like my family members do, DON'T click on it if it pops up. Exit out of everthing go to you tool bar at the bottom of your computer and click your norton. Don't click any desktop icons that say norton, it could be the virus. If your not sure call norton before you do anything. If you click on something and the virus get's downloaded norton will charge you $100-$150 to fix your computer. If you call them before clicking on anything you will not be charged. They say if you accepted the virus they charge you, if you didn't accept it they don't charge you. I just wanted to get this out because it's happened at least to 10 people in a month that I personally know.
Summary:
If a window pops up and says you have a virus don't click it, exit out of everyting. Then go to your virus protection and run it. Especially if a Norton or Total Security window pops up. Exit out don't click.
