I'm wondering how you stopping them from digging it up or eating it themselves.

I was thinking of stuff you grow yourself; dogs (bigger the better) make anything grow better.
I forgot , figs are OK with plenty of lemon, but then is it lemon or fig ? I used store bought lemons, but this year the lemon tree looks good.
I have been struggling with pomagranates for several years . They require very alkaline soil ,like pH 8+, and my yard is acid sand. I have been dumping aragonite gravel (from former salt tanks) and lots of ag lime on them.

pomagranates does not grow in houston unless its in special soil inside a green house... know planty of people tried and failed...

i had the home grown figs for the first time right when summer started, it was so gooooooooooood, beats the gaint sized store ones...
