They do sting. If you're touching them on the squishy part, they won't sting you.
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

Meat tenderizer works well, if you don't wish to give yourself a golden shower.

Yes, they do sting. I've been stung before, but I did not urinate on myself for relief.

But now that you know that, you can keep some handy in the car when you go to the beach.

There are a couple of types.

The clear type aren't good. They will sting you.

The man o war. They look like they have a blue balloon body and long tentaticles hang down below them and they are very posionous. Getting stung by these guys even if they are dead can cause sever problems including seisures.

When I was a kid, my Mom always took a little shaker jar of Adolph's meat tenderizer with us to the beach. (And we had to use it a couple of times).

I have been stung.. a couple got caught in my watch band while I was swimming... then wrapped around my body as I tried to get away... I had welts everywhere but where my bathing suit covered. The group I was with brought meat tenderizer. In that same group a kid was on a wave runner and fell off... in a group of man-o-wars... He was in bad shape and had to go to the hospital. Yes... the jelly fish in Galveston sting... or rather their tentacles do

the only jelly fish i was ever stung by before was when i was a kid in taiwan, and it was one of those non-danger to human ones, their sting is non-lethal nor it does anything to you because it can not pentrate the skin, we were more worry about puffers then the jelly fish...
