The other thing to consider is that a 45 is for the most part a heavier weapon to carry because usually the slide is of a heavier steal.
Again Delock -- lets get together and I will bring my stuff and you will see how it is to carry a Sig Sauer 226

I'd say a Kimber or Colt 1911, .45. Yeah, it holds fewer rounds than a hi cap but if the round is placed accurately, you only need one.

The .45 was originally designed to stop a charging horse.

Hit a guy in the leg with a .45 and hydroshock may kill him.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

I recently got my hands on a springfield 1911 and love it! I feel I'm more accurate with it than the glock 9's.

I'm sticking with the 9 as a carry as well. The main knock i've heard about 9's is about velocity. The bullet is traveling so fast it tends to pass through quicker causing less damage. I'm using hydroshock defensive rounds to help solve that problem.

One of my biggest concerns when purchasing a gun was ammo. I wanted to minimize impact of bullets passing through walls and potentially harming family or such in adjoining rooms. The hydro shock rounds lessen that chance. Once they hit something they start tumbling.

There is a gun show at GRB this weekend. Go check it out. Lot's of choices. Two vendors to look for, AJC Sports from Clute and SWAT from Terrell if they are there.

Kimber 1911 all the way. Full size grip with a 4" barrel, not as accurate as a 5" but still deadly. Also they make them with aluminum frame with stainless steel slide for lighter weight.

                        glock, sig sauer, or a 3-4'' 1911.

                        .45 or 9mm, skip the .40..

                        I carry a Springfield Armory EMP 9mm.

lol geeze i sometimes feel that carry options are like politics, everyone has an opinion and they dont always add up together. im gonna say try several different guns (not just how they feel but how they shoot for you)) i recommend getting one in a calibre that you will shoot often so you get better with it. 9s are easier to find ammo and a lot cheaper to shoot but not a lot less then 40 or even 45 if your buying ammo at walmart. Also the other very very important factor is to have the gun on you. if its too heavy or uncomfortable you wont carry it. And as a side note lots and lots of people carry 45s around just fine. but maybe in compact frame. anyway i say go rent a couple at a range and try them out until you find one that not only fits your hand but you like how it shoots for you. (i have shot my 1911, and my friends xd9, both shoot real well, but i like my 45 better(read that as i LOVE my 1911), but his shoots real well, just dont like how it fits MY hand) soooo many options, never the opportunity to use them (hopefully)

PS: i dont have my carry license yet but i will say my 1911 is a little large for me to carry. i may end up with a 9mm or my .380. but also looking for a snubbie, and i have several smaller pistols that would also likely be on me. id feel just fine with my .32 on me with how it shoots for me.
