yep...i rather gain more reputation than a little more money...
even selling things at full retailed price...how much more can you make a year...people need to think further...we are not keeping fishes for one day...one month..or one year....for a true hobbyist...it is a life long thing...it does not matter if we are keeping what kind of fish, how many...or even not keeping fish for the moment at all...it is not about that...it is that one believe in the heart...through out the years...everyone will make exit and enter to this hobby due to many many things...and everyone would need help when exiting and reentering...
i have know a guy from here...not to call him out...but i bought many many things from him for at least 4-5 times under the market price...some stuffs i even got them free from him..do i call myself cheap? i do not think that way...most of the things i let him called out the price...and thats how much i pay for...because i truth that guy...i know he is willing to help me out...i agree it is hard to gain some money under this environment, but i think it is even harder to gain some truth under the world like this now...
to me...if the seller agrees on the price...and for what is the reason for the seller to think the buyer is cheap...if they really think that way..dont sell it to that buyer...find another guy and call it a day...but if for some reason you do have to sell it to that guy, and can get over the lower price you sold to him...think positively people...you just helped another man out that with the same believes in fish hobby as you do...

I have never thought of keeping fish as an investment. I keep some rare fish because 1. they are rare, 2 they became available.
I would never sell my colony for the price I bought them at.. reason is the same as above. I would rather be known as a good friendly person than the mosquito on my back I wish would just die out when I attempt to swat it away from my person.

+1. Tell me which board where people are not cheap and I'll go there.

I agree with that 100%. Folks aren't trying to rip people off. If you want to sell a fish for say $20, and I ask if you'll take 15, you don't have to say yes. But many folks ask an inflated price knowing that folks will negotiate, so the habit is to at least ask. I do the inflated price thing on CL myself, since the first question usually isn't where I live, but will I take less for the item.

I was told years ago that the value of something is what someone else is willing to pay for it at that moment. If you have a tank chock full of $20 fish, but can't sell them, they might not be $20 fish! They may have been at one time, they may be again next month, but today they aren't. If you must sell them today, you take what someone is willing to offer. Plenty of times between all my hobbies I've sold something for less than I felt it was worth (welcome to Ebay!), but I didn't consider the buyer a cheapo. They just got a better deal than I did.

Cheapos don't buy 300 gallon tanks, multiple tanks or any of the other awesome stuff that a lot of you folks on this box have. Plain and simple.

As a seller though...your product/fish is only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it. I wont go on to say people on this board are "cheap". People should know that any product is worth different amounts in different areas of the globe. That's how markets grow. So just because you see someone purchasing a fish in Ohio or Europe or something, doesnt mean that fish is worth that price here in Houston. Obviously its based on supply/demand. Here in Houston we a great supply of tropheus...therefore the price goes down. It a good business move to try and bargain yourself into a better deal...no problem with that. As a seller you have to be prepared to either sell for what the market is willing to pay...or sit on your fish

                        Fascinating........

Do you guys see how the post originally started out as an insulted type mentality to changing the tone to one of understanding, compassion and yet at the same time figuring out what is the best way to go...and concluding that while saying cheaapooo was not maybe the best thing, but that person may have figured that the HFB is a localized institution that going over to Trophs. com is a more states wide flavor.

If there was ever a threaded post that evolved as much as this one,,, I don't know of it....

However, lets also look at something else too..

If anyone says that the economy is improving,,,,,,, They are not looking at the realistic figures, especially those people who lost their jobs and now in order to make a living, are working two or more jobs... The people who have the two or more jobs just to make ends meet, are losing their homes, the vehicles, their life style...

Sooooo what is left are the people who cannot all the time afford the best prices of fish.. I mean........ lets look at the Petro red bulu... $700.00 dollars for one fish... I imagine that John could do a lot with 700 dollars.

But for what its worth....This so called slight against the box as it were originally labeled was not really a slight at all... rather... its a compliment to the fact that there are a wealth of petro's (Alex has Reds??) No one else had Reds until they started bringing them in... A huge wealth of Tropheus.... My gosh... Look at the list of Tropheus being pumped out... Enough to probably fill Alison of Cichlid and Herps orders for a month of thursdays..

The folks here on HFB are a fantastic group, with lots of good will, patiences (Lord knows, I have used up patience with some of you folks) but contrary to some of the things I have heard... This is a pretty straight group of people who at times do have their fun and digs... but rather a good group that helps...

From what I have noticed... There have been at least 7 moves in the last year (that is what I have noticed) and some of you guys have been in on all of them.. I think...

I guess I am reiterating what was said about relationships and the quality of people on here...

All of you have much to be proud of ....!!!!!!!!

Hey in my defense, I haven't gotten any new fishes on impulse for awhile now!

It leaves me deep in debt by the way.

First, if you do the calculation just buying the 75 w/c will run 29.33 and the rest are free.

EK paid 1900 for his first colony...go figure

Damn good price for a nice colony of W/C Illangi's

But since I'm in a screwed up state of mind I will say this.

Majority of the boxers are cheap! Everyone want something for nothing and some will turn around sell it for a profit. Honestly, I can say that dealing with most of you all at some point. Hell, just off the top of my head I have about $600.00 dollars floating on this board but the ones who owe me always posting about buying other stuff yet cant take care of their debt.

I can say this about Willie..he is a cool guy. I didn't see him knock this site on that post. And we don't need to run and point what happening on some other website.

If you have the loot buy them..if not sit back and dream about it..

I think this thread has outweighed its usefulness and if we are going to worry about peoples feelings and not attack people then this thread needs to be locked because I know willie uses this site. If you were offended they get over it and move on. If you think he was right for posting that keep it to yourself. So can someone please lock this down and lets move on.
