Hi all...
After viewing the post of Htown and his kick in the gut of losing his fish in a blown circuit breaker to his garage situation, I also responded in an additional post about prevention, planning and looking for those weak areas that may cause so much frustrations that you want to get out of the hobby and never again do this.
In the post, some responses were made about electricians and others who have fantastic skills. People who help out when needed, offer their assistance and go out of their way to benefit others.
This got me to thinking.... I looked at Traci's picture of Hurricane Ike and the damages as well as other places that suffered.
The HFB forum is so unique in its flavor, scope, diversity and the wide range of people who come together with so many skills, assistance and abilities.
When some had some problems with possible home foreclosure, Thai (a lawyer) offered to help...
When some needed to move -- Many offered to help
When some needed electrician -- Many offered to help
and I am sure there are so many others that have contributed over the years, months and so much recently that it would be impossible to give credit to all those who have offered of themselves.
Soooo I mentioned to Traci an idea that had been floating around (bad pun) and suggested that this site could benefit from Professional people who are Skilled, Technical, with strong abilities to offer assistance to those who need such help.
If I lived in Houston, and needed an electrician, why not use one of the ones we have. If I needed a roof layer, a plumber, a carpenter, a handyman, carpet cleaner, veterinarian, lawyer assistance -- why not use those who can help and have a more personal touch.....
Now, I am not saying to abuse said people... Pay them - If they offer a discount, pay that discount and then donate to HFB the difference. The professionals and skilled technical people may offer their help at a very big discount or no discount, but still it would be a good work to use those who are forum members.
Its networking in a much more organized way, There are many times when the agony of trying to make a good decision on who to use can be alleviated by knowing a source personally.
Some may argue that the intent for commercialism is in this thought, but its not,,,, its more the thought of resources being not organized in an efficient manner that makes the lives of those who use this forum more difficult.
I would suggest that those people who would like to list themselves as potential availability to help in their specific field,,,, and what charges they would and what stipulations they would like........
So starting with such a potential data base of skilled individuals for resources that will help benefit this community is just another step and another way for the Houston Fish Box to show the way of helping one another in a very nifty community..
