I'm not a gun person but I have a 38 special and a .22 cal rifle and i'm looking to add to the collection. I saw an AK-47 at a pawn shop for $399! Can that be right? The guy told nothing was wrong with it. I know they go for a couple thousand new. Should I be quick to pick this up?

All I know is that its semi-auto(I know fully-auto is illegal) and the stock folds. It does look a little beat up. I just checked out a site that sells them for around $500 new. Thanks for the heads up. I think i'm going to find something else. I need something I can carry with me anyways.

Jose, Its important you look at the rifle and check out a few things.
One get a name and any other inscriptions on the rifle. There are several AK-47 rifle makers out there. $399 is low as they have slowly risen in price from 200-500 for a new unit over the last 6 years.
A Chinese Norinco would be worth over $1000 used even more new.
The Egyptian makers, Bulgarian or Romanian rifles are good too. Some of the Russians are good, some 'not worth the steel they are made from'
If you can get a name of the maker I can give you a much better price on it.

The Romanian WASR-10 is an excellent AK-47. Its considered in the lower to mid end price range of AK-47's. Its well made and you should not have any problems with them.

I also have the Romanian AK. Thing is cheap. I got it years ago...maybe 6-7. I got it for $250 and it was my first rife.
The thing jammed at first but after sanding down some edges it shoots like a champ. Never had a problem with it since.
For a cheap rife it's good.I ate my fish that died.

Not all are big. You can get them with 4" barrel w/ full grip or shortened. They even make a super compact 3" barrel and tiny grip model.
CDP's are made for the hip, they have buffed corners so they don't snag on clothing.

Barrel length is not what you are concealing. You are concealing the grip. I prefer nothing smaller than a compact, but in honestly a full size is better to carry. I have shot the warhog, and because its so small I have extremely pour follow up shooting with it. Which is why I would never carry it.
