I see nothing wrong with you posting your view. I personally think it is VERY childish to "offend" someone by having a different view of how things should be run. Personally, I will give a +1 to my brothers comment about growing up around hard work. As the "baby" of my family I became a somewhat spoiled kid growing up. I think that as Highschool ended and I began working and paying my own bills...things became clear...REAL FAST!!! I now cant imagine not going to work to earn my dollar. The word entitlement can be viewed on many ways. Yes, I do feel Im entitled to my paycheck at the end of a work week...thats a contract, agreement, etc. Mark stated earlier that he was entitled to his military benefits and social security. Both true...but sadly, due to political decisions a guy my age will continue to pay-in to the social security systems but wont ever see a penny of it when I get of age. We as a country have grown to be SOFT. We raise SOFT kids, We run a SOFT government, We slap people on the wrist instead of hanging them by their neck, We let murders claim insanity...and walk. As society gets softer we have seen the "entitlement" phase go sky high. Of coarse the guy who has been raised on freebies is gonna want nothing but freebies the rest of his life...why work hard when you know the government will take care of you. Why learn the English language(any race) when we will cater to you and make advertisements, commercials, tv stations, and cartoons, and anything else possible to meet your expectations. As a guy who was raised up right, I cant go out and get any job of my choice...not even if I have the education or experience...because now a lot of jobs want spanish speaking employees to meet their customers needs. That is the way I see entitlement. Or how about these individuals who have kids...to get more money. Oh, Im broke as hell and cant take care of myself...but im gonna go ahead and pop out like 6 kids(or as I call them leeches)....and then feel "entitled" to food stamps so that they can eat. There has got to be a limit on these things, we cant just keep passing out free money. How about instead of worrying about disaster victims in other countries...lets take care of the disaster victims in our own country. And im not talking about helping people 5yrs after their homes were washed away(my neighbors...still not working), Im talking about helping individuals that stand on corners and really and truely are not all there. We have over packed mental hospitals and not enough space or money so we dump them on the street to fend for themselves...but to look good in the public eye we strive to send help to people who could care less about us. As a college student, I see people thinking they are entitled to free school all the time. Oh I had a baby when I was 15 and since I made a bad decision then...tax payers should pay for me to go to school. heres a thought...instead of wasting money that way, lets use that money to help kids who want to go to college, who did good in highschool, or simply save that money so that tuition rates can drop back down so that im not being forced to take loans that im not gonna be able to pay back for years. But if I dont go to school...I cant get work

I was pretty much just trying to figure out where people get this feeling that they deserve something for nothing. If you don't contribute, you shouldn't expect to benefit.
As a wise man once pointed out. "Now, that, I got me some seagrams gin, Everybody got they cups, but they aint chipped in"All men are created equal but his choices determine his value and what's in his heart determines his worth.
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end"

I appreciate a lot of the points you made Randal. You're right, a lot of people do abuse these programs that are designed to help people get back on their feet in tough times. I think what happened along the way is that Americans became so jaded about being taken advantage of that we just quit trying. When I was a little kid in the mid 80's my parents split up for a few years. During that time my mother and I hardly saw my father and we struggled to make ends meet. I remember at some point shortly after my mom was forced to apply for food stamps/welfare. Even though we only had to use it about 18 mos. or so until my mom was able to get back on her feet, people who found out still just automatically lumped us into the welfare abuser group and treated us badly. I was a manager for Kroger for about 10 years, and I daily heard customers make nasty comments about other customers who they saw using food stamps/wic. Just don't be so quick to assume that most people are abusers, because most people using the different assistance programs are regular people like all of us who hit a really rough patch. I say we take the money and use it to sort out the abusers.

It is somewhat outdated but I recomend you read "Atlas Shruged" by Ann Rand.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

i agree with my husband (frontosaurusrex) kids who are raised knowing that things are not free and that someone has to work for what the get will understand the concept as they grow up, but how do you teach your kids things like that when hey see you sitting on you butt getting checks from the goverment, or when parents are too clueless to admit that their kids have flaws so they tell them over and over how great they are for no reason, i believe in encouraging your kids, but teach them to do something worth encouraging, dont praise them for making c's and playing video games. i hope i can get that across to my daughter as she gets older.I love my baby girl!
