  • What's up with music these days???

Okay, are there any good, innovative bands out there any more?

The radio is a joke. It's all "Rump Shakin" and "Vage Rock" and that seems to be all you find as new or popular on Zune and iTunes anymore.

COME ON!!! Nickleback? The Fray? I think these guys (term used loosely) have changed the concept of being in a rock band "For the chicks" to "Being one of the chicks"

And would it kill any of the newer Metal bands to actually mix in even just a little of the Bass? Why do metal bands even have Bass players anymore. Hint... screeching, distorted overpowering lead guitar was played out in the 70's Punk era.

I must be getting old when I have to go back to the good ol bands like Rob Zombie, Dope, Mushroomhead and Disturbed just to hear some decent, well mixed metal made in the last 10 years.
All men are created equal but his choices determine his value and what's in his heart determines his worth.

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end"

oh goodness, my husband will have a field day with this topic....he is always griping about the buzz and the "rock" bands that they play on there...i like a few of them, but very few....most of what he listens to for metal will not get played on a radio station, you have to go underground apparently...its out there, just have to find it
    I love my baby girl!

I'm tired of the pseudo-rock too. I grew up on 60s and 70s rock and didn't like anything from 1980 until the grunge bands of the 90s. I saw an innovative band on Austin City Limits saturday night, called Them Crooked Vultures, with Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and John Paul Jones from Led Zepplin. Definitely have a different sound, but I liked 'em.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

        +1 on all comments.

When my kids trash my choices for music I remind them that their classic rock groups will be Brittany Spears, Milley Cyrus etc etc.

The radio is a joke big time. For the 4th biggest city Houston radio bites big time.

I've gone to XM radio and it's been a life saver. I spend about 1.5 hours per day commuting to and from work and i have the radion on all day in my office.

holy crap...where do I begin.....? I guess I will make a list of all the bands I listen to in order of "least heavy" to "most heavy" and you can pick and choose what you like. I'll even arrange them by genre....this is gonna take a while. LOL

          METALCORE
          Trivium
          Atreyu
Bullet For My Valentine (very radio friendly, but good)
          In This Moment
          God Forbid
          Darkest Hour
          He Is Legend
          Haste The Day
          Killswitch Engage
          All That Remains
          Bleeding Through
          The Devil Wears Prada
          War of Ages
          As I Lay Dying
Miss May I (really good band)

          HARDCORE
          Terror
          Hatebreed
          Throwdown
Bury Your Dead (old stuff is good, new stuff sucks)
Unearth (one of the best bands around)

          DEATHCORE
          All Shall Perish
          Bring Me The Horizon
          Despised Icon
          August Burns Red
          As Blood Runs Black
          Beneath The Massacre (insane guitarists)
          Born of Osiris
          Carnifex
          I Killed The Prom Queen
          Emmure
          Eternal Lord
          For Today
Disfiguring The Goddess (probably one of the sickest bands around)
          Hester Prynne
          Suicide Silence
          Impending Doom (sick, sick, sick)
          I Declare War
          Knights of the Abyss
          Oceano
          Rose Funeral (extremely brutal)
The Black Dahlia Murder (excellent guitarists)
          The Red Chord
Through The Eyes Of The Dead (old stuff is way better)
          Winds of Plague
The World We Knew (young band but they are amazing)
          Burning The Masses
Whitechapel (best band of all time, if you dont like this music, you'll at least respect it)

          DEATH METAL
          Necrophagist
          Cannibal Corpse
          Deicide
          Carcass
          Dimmu Borgir
          Amon Amarth
          The Faceless
          Ion Dissonance
          Goatwhore
          Cattle Decapitation
Gojira (kind of melodic death metal..not my favorite)
          Behemoth (absolutely brutal)
Job For A Cowboy (best death metal band of all time. They have the best drummer in metal)

I'm sure that only the first list will get listened to completely (thats kind of how we like it) but all of the bands listed are very talented at what they do. They arent out there trying to ride a band wagon or sound like anybody else. These guys have some of the best skill in music today, and they get zero recognition. I've seen most of the bands listed in a live setting and they are all amazing.
If none of this music suites you, I'm sure one band will....if you were ever a fan of Pantera or Slayer....these guys will probably be your new favorite band.

          Lamb of God
Everything from them is good, but the best stuff is from the album called "Sacrament". They just released a new cd called "Wrath" and its really good too.

          Hope everyone enjoys the tunes.

oh, if anyone is wondering what "core" means, it just means they use breakdowns influenced from the 'hardcore' scene. Hardcore originated from punk music but they added breakdowns. (this is a very broad statement but you get the point) If you use a breakdown in your music, whether you're metal, death or whatever, you got it from 'hardcore' music. Little known fact though....lots of people argue that Pantera invented the very first breakdown with the song 'Domination'.

Neil Young tried to tell us Rock and Roll would never die....well, you know he meant it, but it sure does seem harder to find these days.....decent rock anyway......

I keep reflecting back to that hoakey saying from RoboCop...."I"ll buy that for a dollar" ...you can figure out the rest....

To answer your question...."All good things must come to an end....."

There is so much good metal out there nowadays. Back in the day, you had a few bands really do it 'right'. Now, TONS of bands are doing it 'right'. Metal today, is so much better than old metal (respectively). Drummers are able to do things that nobody could 20 years ago. Guitarists are pushing the boundaries every day with blinding speed, creativity and emotion. Vocalists are nuts these days. You can say what you want to about screaming vocals, but one thing you cant say is that its easy. If you think its easy, i challenge you to hold notes, keys and melodies while you scream at the top of your lungs....i'll bet you $100 you either throw up or your throat bleeds before you accomplish it.

If you are a true metal head, take the time to listen to some of the bands I listed. They really seperate the men from the boys

We got a 12 speaker system at work. Sunny 99.1 drove me insane. Within weeks I went to outside sales to escape sunny! I do not watch network tv or listen to commercial radio. I do not listen to rap or metal. I prefer Texas mix you know under ground redneck music like on 105.3 fm. My son is a metal head though.
