  • Brag on my brother

Talked to my folks and my brother has received a very high honor.  Every year on person from each branch of the service is picked to do a one year fellowship with the secretary of defense.  This year the person from the Army is my brother, Maj. Kenneth M. Buck.  My brother has served for about 20 years now.  He has 3 master’s degrees and is working on his Phd.  He’s done a tour in Iraq as well as a few other scary places.  I’m really proud of him.

Though personally I oppose this war.  I’m very proud of the men and women who serve and am thankful they are willing to take a job where they may be risking their lives to protect us.

Yes, congratulations are definitely in order. I agree with you completely, and I, too, oppose the war. However, I have tremendous respect for the men and women in our armed forces. This is a great honor for your brother and your family. Keep bragging!

From an ex-Army solider to the Major props and congrats! I am sure he will represent the Army well!! Hope this honor will speed up the process of him replacing the gold leaf cluster with the silver leaf cluster on the collar!

I have high hopes for Lt. Col.  He's eligible now, but he says it probably won't happen before next year.  After he finishes his fellowship he wants to be a battalion commander.  He really prefers working with the soldiers.

Has he made the XO tour yet? I figure if wants to be a commander, he might have already done that or is doing that. I know when I was in, the major that I worked for hadn't been an XO, but was currently in the S/G-3(ops) role, that is usually the role right before they go onto the XO role and then LTC. Hope he hits the list for LTC soon!

Whats his MOS? Armor, Intel, Infantry....and so on? I know officers have a broad MOSing, but usually the insigna of collar represents one of the fields he is classified in.

I'll be honest, I have no idea.  I've never asked him.  I know he's spent a lot of time jumping out of airplanes and loves that.  Why, I have no idea.   I've always asked about his rank and where he's stationed, but I've never asked specifically about his job.

I may be in the minority on this forum, but I am one who favors the war and expansion of it, do it right once and don't have to worry about it again...
none the less, I also say congrats to your brother, the military needs good people, just like any other profession....
I figure let the government decide to go to war and let the military tell them when it is over...

I would say about everyone except muslims oppose war (or jihad ,as they call it). The question is do you to send them to meet allah in paradise from the middle east or from your own neighborhood? The question has never been "do you like war".
