    Computer Posts But OS Not Loading

    We have a desktop at home here that has what I think maybe a PS issue. In the past, the desktop would not start up after turning the power button on, I'd take a look inside and confirm the connections and cables were good, and after messing with it for a while, it normally booted up.

    Tonight, no go....the pc just will not boot the OS...just keeps "reclying" thru the reset process, over and over....

    Idea's?

    Is it getting past BIOS' loading procedure?

    Do you see it starting up windows and then it reboots?

    If it's getting into windows and then reboots you probably either have corrupt driver issues, or a HD issue. So that would mean reinstall windows or try http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

      No ....it's not showing any BIOS or OS data at all....on closer exam last night, I have noticed the fan on the back of the PS is out....think it's time to replace it now.

        That would be the first place to start, it might have caused other problems. I've seen power supplies that start to go out end up shorting out other components in the computer.

            Well....the PS was not the only thing wrong with the pc....seems the video card was toast as well....I replaced both and still no boot or read out from the mobo at all.

            I had an A8N32 SLI deluxe sitting around so I tossed that in the case....now I am looking for the mobo driver CD...smiles....and then I'll have to figure out how to migrate the HD into the new controllers...been years since I tackled this assignment...wish me luck....Good thing I got this pc to do my research on.
