Hmm, the GloFish colors are actually passed on to the next generation, and so on.

Sproett, I do the same thing! I never want to sound preachy, always want to be nice, but also really want to get the point across that they're mistaken.   :)

Re: Worst advice from a fish store employee

Worst advice I got from a LFS:

When I started out in fish, I was told that a 2" Jack Dempsey would be a great mate for my tetras in a ten gallon tank... After everything else diappeared, my dormmate in college thought it would be fun to get more fish for the Jack Dempsey to play with. Ironically it helped me get into fish more. I started reading up on fish; got a mate for the JD; and bred them for a while.

Looking back, it was bad advice. Sure. But I have that person to thank or my current knowledge of fish (and abundance of tanks).

"I wonder that they don't have access to something like the Encyclopedia of Tropical Fishes.  I remember when I was a kid chain stores had a 3"x3" color sticker with a picture of each fish and the price....... "

I think both PetSmart and PetCo have cardds that mention whether they are community, semi-aggressive, SA cichlids, Afircan cichlids, or Goldfish on tags. It also mentions the scientific name and max size in most cases. All it takes is the employees to read them - which makes some of the things that we hear about that much more disheartening.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
