  • What's been going on with me.....

Since the end of October, I have had a rough time. I gave a brief explanation to a few people at the GHAC party Saturday, but here it is...

The last Friday in October I had another round/series of steroid injections in my lower back (those of you who know me know i have a bad back). That went somewhat smoothly. Saturday evening I began wheezing. I have had asthma since high school (over 18 years ago) but I am one of those who only need an inhaler once or twice a year). Sunday it was worse. By Wednesday the school nurse told me if I didn't get an immediate Doctor's appointment, she was going to call 911. I was able to get an appointment. I got to the Dr.'s office and HE called 911.
I sat in the ER, as jittery as a teenage boy in confession because I hate how abluterol and solu-medrol make me feel. My heart rate was up to 135 and I was in the middle of a triple breathing treatment. (over an hour of inhaled steroids in addition to those injected)
I was told I was being admitted....I was not thrilled. You see... I was not congested... my only symptom was.... I was wheezing when I was exhaling.
Fast Forward - each time i was given Solu-Medrol and/or any other type of steroid other than inhaled... i began wheezing worse. At one point they brought in the ventilator cart. I then refused any steroid other than inhaled types. Guess what.... most meds of asthma are steroids. What has finally been deduced from the three day (in the hospital) escapade was that I had a delayed antiphalatic reaction to the cortico steroids injected in my back...
I went home... while home resting the power line outside my house blew because Centerpoint had a faulty neutral and it basically blew every outlet in the house,..... killing most electronic devices....melting the outlets, blowing up lightbulbs, killing electricity in the house (thus no use of my nebulizer for several days), leaving the smell of melted/burnt rubber in the house...and in my lungs. Centerpoint is reimbursing me for the cost of new surge protectors.... generous huh? THEN.... I became more ill. I slept...and slept and slept. I still get very tired very quickly. Thanksgiving Day was my first big outing since the end of October. I actually fell asleep at the table of a friend's house DURING dinner....then I took a two hour nap.
After three weeks since the day I was admitted, I was able to return to work. I thought I was actually going to finish a complete week at work. That Thursday I began the day smiling and saying "good morning" to everyone. Within an hour of arriving at school I began vomiting. By the end of the day (nurse told me to "hang in there") I could barely stand...but I kept my students in check. I began having severe cramping in my legs and back. It was during the cramping I decided to go to the emergency room. I called a co-worker and she drove me to the ER. I was immediately given fluids and anti nausea meds after I finally got called to the back. All in all, I was told it was food poisoning... It took me over a week before I could eat anything other than oatmeal or toast or crackers.
If you saw me at the GHAC party, there were times people asked me what was wrong or if I was okay. I was having a great time... but I still get tired. Scratch that.... I get exhausted very easily. I took a nap on the floor at John's house. Friday I saw a Pulmonary Specialist who said I'm not doing very well. She said each day is a gift. She told me that even though I sound okay and am not wheezing.... my lungs aren't working anywhere near how they should be. I have had to postpone payments, or ask for generosity....or accept handouts lately. I have had now over $1000 in co-pays just in medication alone. I won't even begin to guess how much i owe the hospital and the doctors. I am so broke it is ridiculous. My bank account thinks it is natural to have a negative sign in front.
I love my fish... sometimes I would like a change...but I don't always want to buy new things. I think if our world went back to bartering... we would all be closer, and there would be less waste. Folks... this is kind of a rant.... sort of a tear in my beer type of story... but it is my story of late. Life kinda stinks at the moment. I disappeared for a while... I hope I am back for an even longer while. I have missed my fish friends....

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

          Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Thanks everyone..... aside from feeling tired all of the time, I really am doing better.
If anyone wants to take care of my dogs for a week... let me know. Or if you know someone who just needs to get away for a week and would stay at my home and not charge a ton of money.... have them message me.
