  • Needed: moving boxes/furniture

This came about a bit sooner than I'd planned so preparation time is slightly above nil.  Primary moving date:  this Friday.  Please pm me if you can help or have any suggestions for a fast move (besides just burn everything and start over).

Am moving from b/f's house back to my own (about 3 miles apart) - in Huffman.  So, if any of you have some boxes you'd like to get rid of, I could sure use them.  Anywhere en route between Pasadena/Deer Park and Huffman/Lake Houston would be ideal as I could pick them up before/after work.   I'm moving everything, not just fish stuff (cars, tools, etc...)   I'll gladly appreciate any kind of container that can hold stuff - boxes, buckets, totes etc...   I can't use large boxes, I won't be able to move them when full :(.  A box the size of a standard 20gallon tank is about the biggest I can handle when full.  Buckets and totes or any kind of container would be nice too.  If you have spares of these, I could use them for things that can be emptied immediately so you could have them back (ie. kitchen/bath/closet stuff).

I have spare tanks, but any spare tank stands, tables, that I could borrow would be appreciated.  I would only need them for as long as it would take me to throw together some 2x4 racks (maybe a week or 2), or setup some outdoor fishponds.   Of course, if you have any extra labor you could donate - that would be much appreciated too, although I really don't expect much on that - I know nobody likes to move!

*sigh*  Just what I wanted to be doing this weekend...  Now I'm probably gonna miss the auction and I was really looking forward to that.  :(

      Re: Needed: moving boxes/furniture

It's because I'm tired of having my belongings scattered between 3 storage units, his house, a friends garage, and my house.  I miss peace, quiet and my solitude.  I hate cramped quarters in a house with 2 tv's blaring all the time, and the stink of cigarette smoke ruining anything in the house.
With storage fees, I should have just sold my show car, the truck and al l my automotive and woodworking equipment rather than have paid to store them for the last 3.5 years.  3.5 years ago, he said he was going to work on having built or building a garage of some sort (he has none) and not a stone has been turned in that direction.  With a 3/2/2 and 2 lots (I just purchased the empty lot next to my house) there's just no reason I should wait any longer.  It's just long past time for him to "$hit or get off the pot").

Someone I once knew shared some advice given by he and his wife's marriage counselor.  He said:  Look hard at the way your life right now at this very given moment in time and ask yourself, "Is this what I want the rest of my life to be like?".  Factor in EVERYTHING - compromises, trusts (or lack thereof), attitudes, tempers, frustrations, benefits, comforts, securities, etc...
The answer should be a point of realization of your satisfaction with the relationship.  Sometimes the answer is one you knew all along, but thought you could "work" on.  It's hard work though, and do you really want a mentally straining second job for the rest of your life?

I feel like the noose around my neck is loosening.  Freedom from walking on eggshells all the time.

I called the O'reilly's thats right across the Lake and talked to the manager (whom I've known for many years).  Remembering that today is "oil truck day" he said he'd save all the boxes he could for me.

Planned time for bulk of the move is during the day on Friday - when I'll be off work and b/f will be at work.

Show car is an '86 Nissan 300ZXT, although I haven't shown it it years due to having to store it out of easy reach (b/f = no garage).  He's  brought home a 1st in Stock class at the '2002 ZCCA National Convention held in San Antonio, and a couple of Autorama plaques along with a few other ornaments  :).

Hey Spot :)  When I moved from my apartment to my house I used a moving company to do most of the heavy hauling..  3 men and a truck.  It cost me about $300 to have them move a TON of crap from my apartment.   They where fast and got what I needed most help with... the heavy **** done in a matter of a couple of hours... It was nice only to have to deal with the little stuff afterwards :)

                  Re: Needed: moving boxes/furniture

Unfortunately, I'm too low on funds to hire a moving company, and it's probably too short notice to get them over on Friday.

My stuff is scattered between the house and 2 utility buildings.  The only good part is much of it is already in boxes or totes of some sort already.  I'll be gathering all the loose house and utility building stuff together over the next 2 days and setting up tanks/temporary ponds at my house for the fish.
I'll probably pick up some more of those 8' x 22" vinyl pools from walmart - they're more within my budget right now.  Then the challenge is finding a flat spot in the back yard to put them.

                        Re: Needed: moving boxes/furniture

I shouldn't need tanks - I've got several of those in storage (easily accessed) and a few already over at the house.  I just need something to put them on until I can get racks built.

I have a couple of endtables leftover from the garage sale - probably run a couple of 2x4's across them and that should hold 2 20L's.  Old tenant left behind a rolling drawer type cabinet.  I figure pull wheels off it and top it with the zebra tank (a seaclear 40) - likely a permanent stand for that tank.   That frees up a 55 stand.  Outdoor critters (goldfish, koi, bullfrogs, wild mollies, wild guppies and blue crayfish) can be put in walmart pools out back until I can dig some sort of pond or other more permanent place.  I can put about 5-10g tanks on the kitchen counters and a couple 20L's on the bar between kitchen and dining room.  I may just pick up some cinder blocks to make some quickie stands if I have too.  Unless I can think of some other way (which does't involve too much $$)

Here are a couple free end tables on craigslist. Might wanna browse through a bit more and keep an eye out for other free items that could be used as stands.

I sent that person on craigslist an email last night & still have not gotten a return email.

I also have a stand that is 7' long & 36" wide you can use too.
