  • Wanted: Computer Genius

My sound driver won't download because somehow the C drive got renamed to something else and most softwares and drivers download to the C drive by default so mine can't download. Virtual memory running low and my computer is all jacked up. Someone help me

i'm not sure how u got your C driver renamed by accident but in order to rename it, u have to boot the bios. however, for a quick fix, when u download anything, even system drives, they should have an option where u want to target the file to download to. as far as renaming the drive in the bios, u may want to have someone come over who is more than average computer literate to come fix it

Or you can reformatt your computer for a fresh start. I do that from time to time.

no need! don't do any of that! go to control panel, click administrative tools! click computer management! click disk management! when the disks show up in the box on the bottom, right click on the largest drive (most likely to be your windows drive) click change drive letter and path! it will give you a drop down, just select "C" from the list. Now that is only a temporary fix to get you up and running as it may alter some program paths, but it's a less involved/less potentially destructive way of getting your C drive back!

if it's as old as you say it is though...a redo of xp is more than enough to surf the web/play music/run word or excel

Just do a system restore to see if that helps

Remember to back up your files before anyone wipes the computer
