What books do we read on here?

Most of my books consist of learning math. Studying to become an actuary. I used to read mostly about fish stuff, birds, and insects when I majored in fisheries biology. Now Im learning to delta hedge, derive Black Scholes prices, calculate probabilities, price American and European options, and Im reading Nothing to Lose by Lee Child on my off time. I haven't reached Plato yet, although I've attempted the Iliad and Odyssey by Homer. That's some really hard stuff.

I really like Orson Scott Card books. They move fast and are fairly easy reads. I was a lit major in college and read all the hard stuff then (really enjoyed the Salman Rushdie controversial novels and short stories), but amidst all the medical reading these days, I find myself leaning toward the easier stuff in my spare time... sometimes to the extreme of picking up trash/gossip magazines and then hiding in shame in my dark apartment from the world and reading them! So fun! Hehe!

Unfortunately my latest read is entitled, "Changing Epidemiology of Bacteremia in Infants Aged 1 Week to 3 Months." It has 3 authors. Ugh.

Personally I like The Odyssey a lot more than the Iliad, but I think it comes down to translation/edition...some are much easier to read than others. But your mathematical reading sounds like a h*ll of a lot more than I could handle, I'll take a bad edition of Don Quixote or Brothers Karamazov any day of the week! Math and I do not get along.

I'm fascinated by statistics. I'm always asking my boss to give me projects I can solve with stats.

Have you ever read "Flatland"? My brother (who took a few of the actuary exams before his current employment) loves that book.

Never read it although I've been told to read it many times before. Is your brother doing actuarial work?

No, he isn't. I do have a buddy that has passed quite a few of those tests, though. He's brilliant.
