          Ok for constant acceleration and constant velocity arent they the same thing?  Both have a change in displacement over a certain time interval?

            Physics -

            Read : http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Class/1DKin/U1L1e.html

            Excerpt : An object with a constant acceleration should not be confused with an object with a constant velocity. Don't be fooled! If an object is changing its velocity – whether by a constant amount or a varying amount – it is an accelerating object. An object with a constant velocity is not accelerating.

              Re: Physic

              T = time
              D = distance
              D/T = velocity = speed  (60 mph cruse control )
              D/T*T = acceleration = petal to the metal (change in speed)
              'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
              He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

                Re: Physic

                What PhishPhreek said, but over a very-very-very tiny period of time :).

                It means that since velocity is "change of position over tiny period of time" objects with non-zero velocity can't stay in the same place by definition of what velocity is.
                And since acceleration is "change of velocity over tiny period of time" => objects with non-zero acceleration can't have non-changing velocity (as a vector) by definition of what acceleration is.

                    Re: Physic

                    Another way to "differentiate" velocity and accaleration is :
                    Velocity is the first time derivative of distance, (M/hr)
                    Acceleration is the second time derivative of distance, (M/hr/hr),
                    rate of acceleration is the third time derivative of distance, (M/hr/hr/hr).
                    In the old days before NEA dumbed down education you had to take calculus before/with physics.
                    I guess that today it is more important to know how you feel about acceleration than understand it.
