Of course even Fish lady may recognize that life fulfilment means different things in different cultures.
For some ,the ultimate satisfaction is strapping on 20# of C4  and eliminating a hundred infidels , then collecting 39 virgins in Paradise.  That part  about the virgins doesn't sound too bad.

yes diversity is common place.....everyone has their own insights into what is what and where is where.....

            Re: THE MEANING OF LIFE

Diverse indeed. I have trouble understanding anyone who would go to an adult strip club the night before they planned to fly an airplane into a building full of innocent civilians and go see their god in person the next day.

I prefer to believe there are not enough people that believe this way to call them a culture. They are culturally diverse from Waco to Israel and everywhere in between and the only thing they seem to have in common is hate. They are just religeous fanatics and not part of the mainstream.

wow... this is an interesting discussion,

fishlady, i have to say - you should seriously consider writing, i know i would write if i was half as decent a writer :)

as an evolutionary trait to protect ourselves, human beings have a natural tendency of being fearful of the unknown/little known (be it people/culture/color/creed/sexuality/social traits/religion/etc.)

i just hope, we all keep an open mind and not generalize and treat each human being as human beings, we should remember that under all of our labels - we all breathe the same air and smile when we are happy and cry when we are sad

                live and let live
                65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
                30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

                live and let live

finfan....i whole heartedly agree with that analogy.....i seem to remember as a young girl i kept journals with thoughts and hopes and of course my ever present dreams....my mother who died on christmas day in 97 found them and burned them all.....i never wrote again after she did that.....but i thought that maybe i should try my hand at it again....for it's my heart that leads my words on paper.....not my mind....and though i maybe turning 49 this month....i have the heart of a centurian.....one that has seen, done, and experienced so much more than life should've allowed....but thanks....i'll consider picking up the pen again soon.....and again thanks for all the comments on here.....

she wasn't a nice person........she had 9 children and i was the last....i guess by the time it got to me she had nothing left to give....or at least that's my rationale for it......she had a problem with loving all her kids at one time.....she could only love one at a time.....and like i said when it got my turn there wasn't anything left......

                              I had 3 kids....
when they were good there were not enough knees for them to sit on
and when they were bad there were not enough hands to grab them with.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
