I'm a little older than the crowd here, but nothing beats Bob Marley & The Wailers. By far the best ever, IMO.
I like Desmond Dekker and the Aces, Toots, Dennis Brown, The Tamlins... man... there's a lot out there. Heck, I even like Shabba and some Sean Paul (sp?). Love Buju, as well.
Seriously. I'm not that surprised that Snoop is doing this. The Dogg-father will do anything to have another spliff. Booooke Boooooke!
I'm a big big fan of Culture and Capleton. Like Burning Spear, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Vybz. Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, are some I listen to off and on. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, man those two were great.
Snoop is trying something new for himself, might be some nice rope he found in Jaimaica or just wanting to change things up. Gonna give him the benefit on this one just for doing something completely from left field.
I'm with flip side. I think it's a disgrace to true reggae music. First of all, the entire video was full of weed heads. I grew up around Jamaicans and going to reggae concerts. Real ones and real Jamaicans. Sometimes they do go hand in hand but to me, only thing snoop has in common with reggae is smoking weed. Sunny, I don't even like rap but Nas was one of the true pioneers of hip hop. He didn't need Damian to get cred. He already had it. If anything you can say that just because Bob is Damian's dad that that helped him get cred. Distant Relatives is one of the greatest albums ever made and it isn't reggae. They both got together with a common likeness and belief and made magic through music. The message behind it ttotally contradicts anything Snoop ever rapped about.

Yeah, but we're talking about REGGAE here J. Let's stay in genre shall we?
I agree, Distant Relatives on it's own is a good album and Nas is a giant in hip-hop but when when it comes to reggae, that album is a non-issue.
It's Snoop's prerogative to rap/rhyme/skat/dub about whatever he wants. Snoop trying something out is not a disgrace to anything, especially to reggae. Come on dude, open your mind. Snoop doing this actually might be better than what Snow did in Reggae. We'll have to wait and see.
When you watch a preview of a movie, it normally allows foreshadowing of what the movie will be about, (unless you have already read the book). All I saw was weed, weed, and more weed. It was like his perception of Jamaica or wherever he was revolves around weed. We shall see though. I like to learn, so it might be in my future plans to buy it and check it out.

Dude, did you miss the many times people said Rasta/Rastafari/Jah in that video? So why would you expect any less herb? If their religion and practices thereof offend you, I think you need to just look the other way.
You're hilarious. I don't think Snoop really took into account everybody who's dad was friends with Jamaicans. Btw, were your dad's friends rasta? Because if they weren't, they wouldn't smoke that much to begin with, i.e., not all Jamaicans smoke that much.
