I have been wanting to go really bad....the weather is nice enough for it right now. I have a sbr build that I need to work some bugs out of....thing shoots like a dream but as soon as I put the can on it it wants to act all stupid....also need a scope for that thing...stoopid retards...sold the acog that was on there to purchase this other nightforce but my deal went through and the other didn't so now I am without a scope.

I am seriously considering getting some training and perhaps a CHP.  I would certainly pass background etc.... I've just never had a gun... thinking it would be a good idea with wildlife etc I have dealt with.  It would probably be responsible for me considering my neighborhood lol.  Do I need a permit for all kinds of guns?  Just to have one in the house?

In Texas you do not need any permit to own a gun that is sold over the counter....as long as you pass the background check which is almost instant in most cases. You do not need any permit to own one in your home....it's your home do as you please. There is no registration in Texas either so you could literally buy one from a stranger you ran into as long as you trust them or make a bill of sale.

For the CHL you just need to sign up, bring a gun and then usually bring about 100rds of ammo...oh and wear comfortable attire cause it's an all day class.

Really though, it's a bad thing to discharge a weapon in a suburb or I think in city limits.....I had to make it a life threating situation with the dog just in case the neighbors saw me shoot the dog(they surely didn't hear it)....pretty simple though....."someone help he's attacking me"! DONE. GAME OVER!



If I may suggest....Jim Pruetts out on Huffmeister and 290 puts on a good class, Top Gun on Beverly Hills over there near Richmond I hear is good....I took mine at Texas Shooters over there on old katy road and gessner(actually the street before or after I forget) which is now Memorial Shooting club or something like that.

Well...I'm a cat freek and a dog freek, so there.
For many years I raised and sold/trained Dobermans, and I always had a Siamese in charge of the premises, and the dogs.
I've seen my cat walk up to my mos' macho male while he was eating, stand right between his front paws smacking him in the face with his tail, and sniff his food to check out if she was interested. My Dobie just stood patiently and waited til she moved on to continue eating. A dog coming too close to him or his bowl would have had a new one torn immediately, but my Siamese always ruled the premises.
I've had several Siamese, and the occasional "son of" half Siamese; I raised the sons and grandsons of my first  female Dobie (Tequila Sunrise) for years and never faild to have a cat to keep order.

Ek,

To answer your question... I take it we are talking about an AR-15 (M-4) correct that you are having problems with the Gemtech ?  or are you running a different can on it ?  Most likely your issue is going to be in the buffer spring.   Unless you have a real good buffer spring in there you are going to run into problems like FTL and FTE's.  If you let me know exactly what your issues are then I can prolly find out quite quick what the problem is.

To obtain a gun in Texas you have to be a US Citizen, OR a resident in Texas (ie lived here for more than 6 months) and posses a green card.
You do not have to register the gun, but have to purchase the gun from anyone who can do a background check on you.  If you already have obtained a CHL and you are a citizen of the USA then there is no need for your background check and you can buy the gun from anyone who is selling a legal gun.
If you want to buy a NEW gun my suggestion to anyone living in Houston, GOTO THE GUNSHOW .... they are by far the cheapest there... all you need to do is know what you are looking for and know who to look for at the show.. if you ever need help with this I will be more than happy to take you along.  (mikewhotroung is wanting to go to one he said)..
You will be taking your sale home that afternoon.  There is no wait time in Texas either.

Suggestions for home defense shotgun - wow how people react fast and leave when they hear "rack-rack" of a shotgun being loaded, (small critters who needs to be eliminated do not take shotgun shells well... 9mm can miss, a spray of bb's no.... for personal defense, 9mm Compact or Full size...

Yes it's the Shortbarrel AR.....I think I have it figured out but have yet to get test it.....I think the problem was with the gas port being a tad small for the increase back pressure from the can which is actually the AAC M4-2000. I just need to get out and test the bad boy....but would rather go to private land since there are less commies out there. I have a few places that I can go to but most are far and the one that is close the guy that owns it is pretty busy.

As for the buffer spring.... I run the MGI buffer and spring...thought they were the problem but the last time I went out I eliminated that guess...brass rod to the gas port and replaced the gas tube since the one that was on there came from another AR that has seen probably close to 10k rounds.

Depending on the day etc.... I have access to a shooting range down in Iowa Colony that unless there is someone there who is going to ***** I dont think bringing an sbr with can there anyone is going to say anything.. usually when I go there, there is not a soul out there unless there has been a competition that day.
