    Re: Plinkers!

I like to shoot in my neighborhood, mostly straight up in the air.  Im a gambling man, so it makes it fun to see if the bullets miss you or your neighbors on the way down.

      Re: Plinkers!

I need to get my ruger out and shooting.  I'd rather not do it at a formal range though.. kinda takes the fun out of plinking.

<rant>That and the idiots that show up at the ranges.  I told one guy at ASC if he pointed his gun at me again I'd consider it an opportunity to shoot back.  Range masters were no help but after this he finally started to keep his barrel pointed down range.

There are new people who I don't mind asking if they need help but others like this punk needed a less formal lesson.</rant>

          Re: Plinkers!

I hunted squirrels.....tried to hunt hog on some private property but messed when I took friends along....we ended up just this giant dead tree..5-6hrs worth of shooting and about 5k rds later that three somewhat fell

There are jokers everywhere you go! There is no way around ignorant people other then private property or Impact Zone. I have had some guys sit there with their jammed up AK swinging it around and banging it on the ground trying to unjam it.... I told him a few times that he needs to keep it downrange...after the fair warning I took it as a threat and drew down on him.   after that the range officer kicked him out.

As for ranges that have allowed my CIII, Top Gun allowed me to shoot my 9mm AR15 and Suppressed P22....Carter's never says anything and at one point I knew everyone there cause I was going about twice a week blowing off about 1k rds each time....Theres a place out in Kingwood that allowed us to shot the 5.56 in their Indoor range. Impact Zone is the best though... Usually go out there with the Houston Arfcom guys and blow stuff up!

Hopefully by the New Year's shoot out there my SBS will be done....that's gonna be a blast!

It is on a Sunday I believe....starts at noon and if it turns out like before maybe be there by then to reserve myself a little cubbyhole to chill in......Looking into more plinking ammo as I type for the AR15, gotta work the bugs outta that thing so hopefully I have can fix it if not fixed already and send a few thousand rounds down range.

I was hoping to ride with you there cause the road into the shooting area is a bit rough being gravel and all but I can ride with one of the Arfcom members. Oh....gonna break in my little sawed off shotty too! Gotta go check out prices on cases of clay cause it's fun as hell to shoot!

                    Good read

                    Reasons to carry
Contributed by: Peter Callinicos on 7/21/2007

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gangbanger, and a single gay guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weightlifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Most of the above story came from a retired military officer.
All men are created equal but his choices determine his value and what's in his heart determines his worth.

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end"
