Mod chip bypasses the key or copyright reader on the game console.....basically stops it from looking for the copyright key that is burnt into the games you buy allowing you to play backed up games or basically bootlegs.
I have the PSP modded and it has hundreds of old school games on the memory card....only problem is it won't play store bought games that require you to update the system.
