  • Speckled Trout Trip

Went out to East Bay last thursday and we slayed the speckled trout. My buddy, who owns the Big Nasty Bait Co. took me out in his boston whaler. We arrived at the reef we fished at around 7:15 a.m. and had two limits in the box by 8:30. Here's a couple pics:

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? Big nasty baits are awesome. Very durable but soft which makes them deadly. Good catch. It's easy fishing right now with the shrimp leaving the marsh.

Yeah, I love those baits. I'd bought a couple dozen packages before Doug bought the company; several color patterns but mostly Cajun Pepper and Chartreuse. Thursday we had better luck on darker colors; Doug was throwing a plum and I was throwing plum and black/red. I caught my biggest trout on Green Wing Gravy in Dickinson Bay. We were into some massive sand trout, too. I kept a few for lunch. As soon as the water temp drops a little more the sh_t's on! We've been getting into the flounder and reds in the bayous. Limited on both a few weeks ago in Highland's Bayou upstream from Louis' Bait Camp floatin' around in my kayak.
