Water softener for House

Any suggestions, comments, from people who use one would be super helpful.

I did a search and there was an old thread from 2006, so i'd thought i'd start a new one.

I'm really not getting it for aquarium reasons, just don't want sandpaper for towels anymore. But i will eventually have fish again, so I know i will need some type of bypass

I got a good use of my system, no itchy, hard skin after taking shower, I buy salt and refill the bottle every year and change resin media every 2 yrs. Unfortunately, I recently got to remove it from where it was standing in the garage to park my truck inside.
