    Re: Flooding?

About 4' into my apt. the carpet got wet. My light only went out for a couple minutes. I suggest everyone invest in a battery operated air pump as a back-up plan.

for me it would require a generator to run my alita pumps and my regenertive blower, I can not afford 190 battery powered pumps and batteries.

We didn't get it bad up north in Tomball, but I managed to drive through the one deep spot and break loose some underbody plastics. Stuff was grinding on the pavement all the way home.... argg

            Re: Flooding?

I was high and dry in the Heights.  Ventured out early in the afternoon and didn't see any severe flooding in the immediate neighborhood.  I'm sure the access road to the Loop and the customary flooded intersections had already drained.  I'll have to keep a close watch on the weather this evening and in the morning.  If it's going to be as bad as it was today, my trip to San Antonio will definately be starting later in the day.

              Re: Flooding?

Didn't lose power in Deer Park and no water in the house, but the weather was enought to keep me from coming home once my shift ended at 7AM.  Didn't leave the Medical Center (Downtown) till about noon.  I passed many a flooded intersections while on I45.

Wonder if I will be able to make into work tomorrow?  Isn't it suppose to rain again tonight or in the morning?

Having lived in the area for 50 years,  I keep a 1978 dodge ramcharger around back with 318 cuin V8, a 6" lift kit and 36" super mudder tires.

I could go anywhere until our hwy planners started digging the main roads down 24" deeper so they could fill with more water.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

                  Re: Flooding?

Remember that tropical storm in 2001? Our highschool seniors had won tickets from 94.5 The Buzz to go to Astroworld. We were there early, it clouded up, it started to rain. All my friends wanted to go, but I wanted to wait it out, you know, the whole "wait 5 min., it'll change." Well it got harder and harder and Astroworld was really really flooding so we decided to beat it. We were in a minivan (7 of us), trying to get back to Baytown. We all got home ok, but some of our friends who didn't get out of the parking lot until just 5 minutes later got stuck, stranded on 10. Man that was awful. My fiance (new boyfriend at the time) was driving the van and boy was that thing moving all over the road. Everybody in the back was laughing about it, but man, that might have been the scardest I've ever been, you could feel it move over because of the waves on the road! I always have thought that hurricanes suck, but at least you have some warning and are able to huncker down or try to run, but when they pop up like that its awful. Hopefully this rain will stop flooding Houston and we won't be hit by a storm this year. Some nice afternoon showers will be enough, thank you!

Try to stay safe and dry,
                  Ellen

                    Re: Flooding?

We got about 5 inches of rain so I went outside to catch crawdads in the ditch must have caught at least 30 then it started raining again so I went inside. I remember a couple years back we got about 8inches of rain and all of the neiborhood ponds started over flowing and the street was covered in water so I went out into the street and there were catfish swimming around in there :o   so I got a net and caught a couple to put in a three gallon tank.

                      Re: Flooding?

Back in the 60's we used to have a blast playing in the streets when it flooded.

I hated rain in the 70's and 80's because it intefered with all my projects. If it had not rained every time I wished it didn't we would have lived in a desert with blowing sand dunes and all.

Now, I think we are complaining because we burn too much carbon and we have changed the climate.

I hope I am around in twenty or thirty years to have a differnt perspective. Maybe I need a 1978 dodge ramcharger around back with 318 cuin V8, a 6" lift kit and 36" super mudder tires. Then I could drive it over to Mark's and catch crawdad's without getting stuck or moving all over the road.

                        Re: Flooding?

The water is gone now but if you want I can catch you some crawdads the next time it rains alot. We always have fun when it rains my brothers and me usually go skim boarding or there is a huge dranige ditch in our backyard and when it rains alot (more than it did 2 days ago)then we go canoing.

We didn't flood or loose power in Baytown, but my wife refused to pick up my truck (360 v8 with 3" lift and 32" tires) so she was stuck at Broadway and 45 for about 4hrs. She hates driving my truck. No water in the car so all is well. Next time my truck is all that will be in the driveway when she gets up for work!!

Planning a new 150+ tank. Any suggestions?

Mark, I think I am going to try the prawns instead. If you breed the crawdads I would like for you to keep me up to date though in case the prawns do not work out.

Smokin_Cache, I worry about Patty in her little pickup truck too. My exwife drove her ( my ) 280 ZX off in the water after she left me and totaled it out. We really love our machines. That was 25 years ago. O well, I guess it was gone already anyway.
