  • Hurricane Season: Be Prepared

Stock up on battery operated pumps. Which I'm going to do tomorrow along with the home items I'm going to get. Maybe even some dry ice as a precaution. Possible tropical storm(not strong enough yet) coming Tuesday.

Gosh I hope my house doesn't flood again!! We've still got a mess from the last one that we're working on. I get off work early today so I'm going to go get more batteries for my bubblers and I'm going to clean tanks. Also need to stock up on more water for the dogs and cats, check their food supply...

Oh crab. We are barely dry out a little bit. I heard they compare this storm with Allison last night. Will be a lot of water.

My heart just sank. Luckily I get the next 2 days off from my summer job. But what can I do other than sit and watch the water rise just like last time? I have 4 fisherman's bubblers. I'm thinking 3 on the 75 and one on the 30? And I know to take the filters off. I didn't know to do that during Ike and fortunately it didn't hurt. We had 4 days without power and I had no bubblers. Stood over the tanks and scooped out water and poured it back in. Lost 4 fish. Came close to losing my male parrot.

When it flooded a few weeks ago the dogs were so upset. They had no choice but to just pee in the house. The poor rottweiler was the most upset. He waited until he found one little patch on the yard so he could poop. I didn't see my favorite cat for a week. He was so traumatized that I thought he was going to starve himself to death. Of course I would've taken him to Doc and got an IV if I had to. What an awful time. UGH!!

Last time I heard last night, they said it was a slow moving storm. Hopefully it speeds up. I'm not in an area that floods much so I'm mainly worried about power outage. Stores are running low on items. I had to get the expensive water. Now I have to go to multiple pet stores to pick up my pumps.

Are you talking about battery air pumps?

We've been in this particular house for 25yrs and it's the first time we ever flooded. It was AWFUL.

Yep, it's a slow moving system, and it will dump water everywhere at the same time.

Thanks beth. I'm going when I get off work. Hopefully it doesn't get into homes this time. Ever since flooding the inside of a rental last year(cleaned up good so they never noticed), I'm never driving in those conditions lol.

Yes, the noisy pumps. I had already paid online for a couple at different stores this morning.

+1 at Academy. I have 10 ready, 1 for each tank. Don't forget the battery.
