    The American Dollar - going to 7734 in a handbasket

    As our government continues to run in the red, the dollar value is plumetting severly.

    Here is a excellent fish example.

    Rena is a French Company.

    They make the Rena Filstar Canister Series and other things.

    They make buy and sell things on the Euro which is very strong right now.

    2-years ago every online dealer was selling the XP3 model for $99 plus shipping.

    1 year ago, every online dealer was selling the XP3 model at about $125 plush shipping.

    Last month's Dr.Foster and Smith Catalog came out and guess what the price of the XP3 was at??

    $169.00

    I bought my (2) XP4's for that price a year ago.  

    I can only guess what the Euro is going to start doing for Eheim parts and canisters...

    I noticed about 2-3 weeks after I purchsed my Rena XP 3 from petsmart the price jumped up about $60. I was planning to buy one more just in case but changed my mind. I was so glad I got it when I did. But you're right I noticed alot of things jumping in price. And not just $1-$2, I'm talking about $20-$60 jumps.  8O


    Btw: unfortunately my pay check keeps decreasing!  I wish it would do a jump or two!

      Marineland and Penn-Plax are headquartered here in the US.  So looks like

      Cascade 1500 and Marineland C-360's are going to be the only viable replacements to Renz XP3's out there for under $150 with media.

      I think Eheim 2217 might still be out there for that price, but not much longer.

        I heard from Andy at Fishland a new model of 2217 is coming out soon with a substantial price increase, and they will not include the media anymore. This may or may not be fact, we'll have to wait and see.

            It hasn't happened yet. I ordered a 2217 kit from Big Al's yesterday which included media for $119.00.

              After a quick visit to Big Als web site, I see the 2213 for 119.00, but the 2217 is 199.00.

              Is there a sale going on I'm not aware of??

                Not sure where you're look CF but I see the 2217 with media for $119 and the 2213 with media for $69

                      That has been a problem with me before, when I tried to get Marine Depot to price match Big Als before.

                      You got to be careful which Big Als site you use, and how it comes up.

                        thats weird, seems kinda odd that one part of site shows old price and another the new, must be an error with them updating and such.

                            Guys I just got out of a morning meeting and guess what...

                            The CEO's of the following companies got together and sent out a letter to all people using Petrochemical refined products.

                            DOW, DUPONT, ROHM & HAAS, and HUNTSMAN issued statements today that a flat out 20% price increase on all products will take effect next quarter.

                            This means that all people in any kind of petrochemical industries raw products will take a 20% increase.  So...to maintain margins semi-finished or finished petrochemical products will also take a 20-30% increase in price.

                            Anything you see in plastic of anykind made or packaged, or rubber made or packaged, is going to be going up 15 to 30% by end of the year.
