  • Electricity Bill

Just a heads up to my fellow boxers, I do not know if the majority of the power or electric providers are like my old provider (Dynowatt), but it has come to my attention that power companies have been granted the right to raise the standard or average price of a kilowatt depending on your particular agreement with your power provider.

MY former provider (Dynowatt) was charging me 13 cents per kilowatt, and my average bill was in the mid 200 range, my bill for the last billing cycle was $569.00 for the last 30 day cycle, and the shocking part was, they charged me almost .25 cents per kilowatt.

You may want to take a look at your current agreement/contract with your provider.

Did they go out of busines and you were switched to a last resort provider by any chance?

Power to Choose is the official, unbiased, electric choice website of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, where all certified electric providers in the State of Texas are eligible to post their electric plans. On the Power to Choose website you can compare electric offers and choose the plan that's right for you.

Dynowatt, did go thru some internal changes, mostly in their accounting dept I believe, but they are still providing service to the Houston area. I switched after getting very poor customer service from them and in one instance, they billed me twice in a 28 day period for 45 days of service. It was a real nightmare to get settled.

$664.22 for us for the month of May.   8O

We're with Reliant (formerly HL&P) and I can't switch.  My dad worked for HL&P, my grandfather and great-grandfather both retired from HL&P...if I switch I'm written out of the will.

I'm looking at switching providers as well.  I'm currently at .14 per KWH with Reliant but received notice that it will be increased to .17 in August.  I'll be sure to cross Dynowatt off the list of potential providers.  Leaning mostly towards Direct Energy or TXU, they both have a couple of plans available online that are in the .16 range.  I still refer to Reliant as HL&P, aka Houston Loot and Plunder   .  No offense meant to your family Imagirlgeek.

                      Re: Electricity Bill

This is where I count myself fortunate - my apartment complex used to be all bills paid years ago.  They stopped doing that - but they do do communal billing.  They get the bill for the whole complex, take 5% as their bill for the utilities for their office, etc.  Then they split the rest up based on various factors.  Electric and gas are split up by square footage.  Bigger apartments pay bigger electric bills.  Water is split up by # of people in the apartment.

On average I pay about 150 - 250 a month (depending on how many people are using their AC's) for everything except phone and cable.  Rent is cheap too :P
