    Re: Electricity Bill

Ours only went up $60 from last month to this month. But I already knew that the bill would increase. So I started running the ac all day on 75-78 to keep the bill down. The fuel charge was $60 more than the electic charge. Most people in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area said their billed doubled in the last month. I may be sweating my hiney off at home but my bill is staying low. And as long as I don't do any "house work" I stay cool.  I can only clean tanks.....it's too hot to clean house.

GEXA here, too. $177.00 this month...$20 more than same month last year, because I had a huge cottonwood tree cut down in Apr. that shaded 80% of the roof all day.

main house is log w/ foam insulated metal roof.  All interior walls and upper floor are also insulated.   Us & 3 of the kids built it ourselves over an 18 month period back before Meg was born.     Spruce logs have good r-value.

Wow...my electricity bill was $996 for May at ~$0.16/KWH.  I am starting to think that something is wrong at my place.

                      Re: Electricity Bill

I'd check into better door and window insulation and explore the radiant barrier cost. Sounds like time to check up the A/C systems as well.

You must have one good job to be able to afford a grand a month for electricity.....so you must be doing something right.  How many tanks are you running, how big of a house??

Nah....I just took over paying the bills from my wife after about 10 years of not seeing them.  I almost fell out of my chair when I got the bill but my family is home all day in the summer so we do have the A/C running all day long.

I am running about 20 tanks.  Only 7 are greater than 50g though.  The house is about ~3,100 sq ft.

Now that I am reading this I am wondering if I should have my A/C units looked at.

Evan -- yeah I would get someone to check out your insulation and other things.  ~$1000 is no small amount.. unless this is a business.... and you have a ton of equipment that is causing this.
My house is 2350 sq ft 2 story home.
My highest bill ever was ~420.00 I dont know if we are going to get higher than that this year but I know $1000.00 will not be reached.

The house is programmed to be 71 Monday - Sunday from 7am-midnight.  76 from Midnight-7am -- my roomate who pays the electrical bill hates it when its not cold.  (yeah I know.. the programming of the timeframe is strange.. but I dont pay the bill and he insisted on paying the bill so he could control the A/C)

I had in a 980 sq ft apartment the same bills until the evaporator core was replaced.. then the cost went down by about $50.00 -- that place would never go lower than 76 no matter how much we ran the AC... that place sucked.

I was up in my attic plugging leaks and noticed a gurgling sound from the copper AC lines. Do I need to have it Topped off or is that sound normal? also, the compressor is getting loud when it starts. Wakes me up, but I'm not a deep sleeper
