Re: **UPDATE** WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR PETS???

That is the best news I've heard all day, all week as a matter of fact.  Now comes the fun part, giving him his med's, better get out the kevlar gloves LOL.  I'll be sure to tell my kitties he's home so they can stop worrying about him as well.

 I'm so glad he's home. He will be running around healthy and happy now that mommy's taking care of him.

I already have.  And I talked to him all the way home in the car about all you guys...the car freaks him out and I figured telling him about all you guys was better than silence and pitiful kitty meows.  And I can't put him in a carrier because the only time he ever growled at me was when I attempted to do that.  Since then, he just rides in the seat.  :)

Hey, while I'm here...anyone have any experience with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA)?  That's what the diagnosis for the day is.  That's what we are treating for.  Steroids and Antibiotics.  I'm reading as much as I can about it, but if someone has ever gone through it, would be nice to hear that experience.

Oh...and keep adding funny cat stories.  I'm lovin' those!

                    Funny cat stories...

I have a cat named Freya = when they were given to me, they were tiny enough to fit on my palm.  We (me and an ex) kept them in our rooms till they got big enough to explore the house.  She and her brother Ruffies (I hate my ex roommates for naming him that) would get into so much trouble.

They fell off the bed repeatedly - Ruffies in particular would get into situations - like getting tangled in the ribbons from a bunch of mylar balloons and try to run from them, only to drag them with him - he ran like the hounds of hell were on his tail.  It took forever to catch him and get him loose from the ribbons...

They stole socks - the little delinquents.  But not just any socks - oh no.  Not the cheap-cotton-comes-in-packs-of-ninemillion socks.  Nope.  They had to have the cotton and/or wool socks I mail ordered for my job as a 17th century historical interpreter.  Later we found a bunch of them in the crawl space.  Thieves.

Shadow's cat Sophie is a thief, too. So far she's swiped my calculator, a TV remote, several items of clothing, a toothbrush and butane cigarette lighters. When I finally found her stash and recovered the stolen goods she got mad at me and didn't speak to me for a week. Now she has a new stash place...

Re: **UPDATE** WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR PETS???

They can be sneaky little things can't they.  My little white cat, Peanut, made off with a ring of mine one day.  I knew she took it as she has excellent taste in jewelry.  She would not give it up and then, months later, I heard a tink, tink behind my chair and sure enough, there she was blatently flaunting her find by bouncing it on the floor.  She was shocked that I wanted it back, figured it was hers since she'd had it so long already   .

Peanut also likes water.  My dogs have a tendency to empty out the big pot I use for their water bowl with their feet.  Yes, they get fussed at but it doesn't stop them from doing it.  One day I came in to find Peanut curled up in the empty pot and could take a hint, duh, there's no water in here.  She wouldn't get out of the pot so I picked it up, with her still laying in it, took it to the sink and started filling it with water.  She didn't move, just stayed curled up in the water.  She was completely covered by water except for her head and had no intention of moving.  I finally removed my now soaking wet cat from the water pot and finished filling it up.

                        Keep us updated on Xander!

Re: **UPDATE** WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR PETS???

First night successful!  He came in and immediately headed for the food dish.  He's been eating and drinking like a madman, but they said the steroids would cause increased thirst and hunger.  He's also taken 3 pills and I'm not completely shredded!    The first one (steroid) I put in a cube of cheese, but the antibiotic is a capsule and the size of a human pill.  No way the cheese trick was going to work, so I just put that one in his mouth and then gave him his wet food.

So at what point does sleep deprivation cause insanity?  I thought for sure when Xan got home I'd go back to sleeping normally.  Nope.  Last night up until 3am studying about liver diseases, pancreatic issues, spleen problems, and how all three organs work together in a cat.  Everything points to Feline Leukemia or Feline AIDS, but he tested negative for both!  Anyway, then up at 7am for his meds.  Then we curled up in the chair for 2 hours for a nap.  Obviously I'm awake again.  :)

                          Cat Stories:

Barkley, our black and white, used to steal stuff too, but he'd always give it back...he'd put it all in my purse.  :)  I'd get to work and be digging around for a pen or something and find several bottle caps, milk rings, and a couple of small stuffed animals.  I guess he figured he was putting them away so he'd know where they were for later because he'd dig down in my purse looking for them.  :)

And here's a pic of Xan when he was a kitten...butt in the water bowl, face in the food.

, that is just adorable.  The steroids increasing his appetite is probably a good thing, you want him to keep eating, and especially drinking.  At least he's letting you join him in his cat naps   .  Sounds like he's well down the road to recovery.

Good to hear that things are going well and he seems to be "at home" with being at home, acting like a cat is supposed to act like.

Traci it takes a while before insanity sets in..  you are in the clear :)

It is great that you could take him home and care for him there.  Sometimes being comfortable is what they need.  Being sick is bad enough without the stress of a strange place and missing your family.

                                Best wishes to you all.
