Well, every day is so much better than the day before. I got up yesterday at 7am and went down to his regular vet to talk to them before taking Xan in. I ended up talking to a tech and dropping off all his records. Dr. Hendrix was going to be in at 9am. He called me at 9:45 and said the records were really good and he was able to get a very good idea of what has been going on since last week. Then he asked if I could bring Xan in at 10am for bloodwork. Heck yeah!! :)
Dr. Hendrix said that he really likes how Xan is looking, especially based on what he's been going through. He said he didn't expect him to look so healthy! We have a very sick little kitty, but he is on the mend...I can feel it! His bloodwork yesterday showed his PCV is a little low again, but his Bilirubin levels have gone down and that's good. His liver enzymes were so high that they didn't even register on the report. Dr. H said not to panic though because his little body seems to be working hard to level out again. He added one more med to our regiment. It's a pill to help his liver do it's job. We go back tomorrow for another round of bloodtests, then again after the holiday weekend. We have a long road, but I feel really good about it.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
We had another vet appointment today, more blood work, and his HCT is 35%!!!!!!!!
[Hct] 24-45
Hematocrit The hematocrit is the percentage of the blood volume occupied by red blood cells.
How great is that?! So now we don't have to go back until Xan finishes his liver meds (9 more days). Dr. Hendrix said that the more he's seeing Xander improve, the more he's leaning towards the diagnosis being the blood parasite (Hemobartonella). I hope I hope I hope. The blood parasites can be eliminated by the antibiotics he's on, the immune-mediated hemolytic anemia is something that would always be in the background.
Today was a good day!!
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and words, I have no doubt that's what has helped us through. :)

I'm glad today was a good day...you needed it! We are sending a few more words, thoughts and prayers your way since they worked so far! (I don't mean to think that ours were the only ones that worked )

That's great news. I'm sure being home has alot to do with it too. Mommy's love can heal almost anything. And it sounds like Xan has lots of that.

2 months later, 3 days in the ER, visits to the vet every 2 weeks for bloodwork, 50 steroid pills, 28 antibiotic capsules, and 10 pills to improve liver function....
We got a clean bill of health from Dr. Hendrix this morning!! Whoo-Hoo!!
Xander's HCT has held at 44% for the last 2 weeks, with no meds. And he is up to 14 lbs! 8O (when this all started, he was down around 10 lbs)
Dr. H said to just keep an eye on him and if he starts acting 'odd', check his gums to make sure they are pink. If they are pale, bring him in for a quick PVC test. He said there will always be a possibility for a relapse, but he could also go the rest of his life without a problem. I'm hoping for the latter.
