Re: Hercules - Worlds Biggest Dog

We had a 5 month old English Mastiff in for a neuter today at my work. This PUPPY was bigger than a lot of DOGS we see!
If/when I get another dog, I'm sticking with chihuahuas!
I like a dog that my cats can feel superior to!

Hanson, I figured you meant that as humor. :)

It's just with computers, you don't see any emotion. It could have actually been interpreted either way. Since I knew you were a dog lover, I took it as humor. There are people out there that hate dogs.

No hard feelings, my friend. :)

          John,

As soon as I get me a house which is hopefully next spring, the first thing of my list is a BIG *** DOG.

I'm looking for like a Cane Corso, Pit, Boerboel, Weimeraner, or some other hound like dog.

I like the brindle, black, or blue and that seems to be the standard color for the Cane Corso.

Even though the dog looks better with cropped ears, I do not want to do that.

I'm not a big fan of clipping the ears.  I personally think it's cruel to do especially to a puppy.  Just my two pennies worth.

Same here, I think the clipped ears is just not needed, I mean I can understand the tail docking to a point, especially a hunting dog, but if it is really not needed then no need to do so.

The tail docking is done at like 2 or 3 days old, but still painful no less.

Re: Hercules - Worlds Biggest Dog

There are large dogs and then there are the dogs that I would NEVER EVER WANT TO MEET IN A DARK ALLEY...

Here is my favorite dogs.. only because I know from personal experience how incredibly powerful they are.

                # 1 Japanese Akita aka. Akita Inu -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akita_Inu
                # 2 Newfoundland aka. Newfie  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_(dog)

If I ever again live WAY North I would entertain the idea of having a newfoundland dog.
If I stay here and get a dog... Akita...  I would just feel bad for the newfie as he/she would be incredibly warm here in Houston.

Jesper, do you not think a Akita would also run way too hot?

Part of my reason for short hair large dogs is the heat, and the shedding part.

Re: Hercules - Worlds Biggest Dog

Yeah your right..   then again if you groom them on a regular basis then I dont think it should be to much of an issue for either dog.  My friend owns an Akita... her name is Rosy.. she is the coolest dog on earth.. and she lives 100% of her time indoors in the summer and loves it when its cold outside.. loves to sit on the back porch and look out :)

The only problem with either dog that I like is.. they are incredibly strong... specially the Newfie.  As a 12yr old boy I still didnt have the strength to stop "August" if he decided he wanted to walk in a direction...  I could hold him back to where we could be in a tug of war and he would always get a step in one at a time.   The owners of August owned his mate, a female named "Mathilda" and as long as August was on the leach, and she was free he knew not to run off... he would never leave her side, and she would never leave us while walking them..  those two dogs where inseparable.

                      Geoff,
Those are all winners in my book. :) Let me know when that time comes. I'd like to go look at them with you. :)

My sister has two Akita's and they shed big time. Her dogs, her house.

Check out african boerbels.  lion hunting dogs.  George forman breeds them but wont sell them to the public because he wants to keep the bloodline pure.  my girlfriend works at the vet that he brings all of his like 40 dogs to in kingwood.

Jet- So, he just sells them to private individuals? At some point, he has to sell one.
That's crazy. lol. That giant a$$ dog is going to get out of someones back yard and breed with a poodle or some tiny dog
                          sooner or later.
                          Then we'll have african boerbeldooles.

                          Go figure.

Cropped ears are like a circumsion. Looks better and easier  to clean.
