  • Sending a big Thank You to eklikewhoa!

I know you probally don't hear this much but I wanted to send you a big THANK YOU for helping me out with a pump for the sump.
The mag 9.5 is awesome. I'm not using the full power of it, but the results are amazing. It's been running for about 3 days now. With my
other pump my evaporation was a gallon of water a day. With the mag 9.5 my evaporation is about 1 qt. every 3 days. What a difference
it's making already. I didn't even realize that the other pump was putting out so much heat until I swapped them.
I plan to swap tanks at the beginning of next year, add another sump to the larger tank and I'll be getting another mag 9.5
for it also. I'm going to move the saltwater to the 160 and the african cichlids to the 120. At that time there should be less head so maybe I can use
the full power or close to it. Now don't let your head swell too much you might fall over.

    Thanks again!

    No problem!

As for the swelling.....that phase has long gone

I have spent a good deal of money in this hobby and a lot of it was trial & error, luckily there are local forums in which I can turn around and sell those items without a great deal of loss. Just figured I would help someone else out to keep the hobby jumping cause once you're out of money it's not as fun!

so by not having the right pump it can evaporate water faster.. i have a pump in my wet/dry that is rated for 4700 liters/hr about how many gallons is that??

Your not kidding. Another thing is that it would take me an hour to adjust the other pump to get it just right. When I hooked up the mag and the ball valve it took me less than 5 minutes to get it right. I couldn't believe it. I kept expecting a flood or a dry sump. I must have went and looked at it 100 times to make sure it was ok. I figured something had to be wrong. It can't be this easy. The next morning I rushed downstairs to check it and all was well. I have to say I am very impressed. I am keeping the other pump as a back up. Just a back up! I don't think I'll ever get another pump unless it's a mag.   I am also very grateful for the forums, without the people on these forums I would more than likely be pulling my hair out.  I don't think I would look that good bald.

jguerra, I'm not sure if it's every pump that does that. I know mine did. The pump I had was from lowe's, it was a pond pump. It ran hot which made my water evaporate faster. The mag runs cool and dosen't evaporate my water. It was just one of the first things I noticed about it.
            4700 liters = 1242 gallons.

You can never have too much pump imo.

Depends on if your overflow can handle it....if it's just circulating water in the tank then it's good.... I have a mag12 on my 125g along with several other pumps/filters.

yea the overflow handles it pretty good.. it has a 1.5 " inch output and i have several diy jets that i made to push water from the top and around the tank and the top rim pointing in different directions.. i also have a cascade 1000 and a magnum 350 with a lot of ammo-chips in the magnum..
